I'm sure it'll be good, but there will be changes/downgrades that irk me, and I'll probably still prefer at least Morrowind.

Depends on what you would define as "actually good" by Bethesda fanboy standards...

It's guaranteed though it'll be crammed up the ass with microtransactions and paid mods even if it does turn out to be good.

I suppose. But all their game's age like bananas.

Or they're running through the motions while they focus on their space game.

Gotta try those paid mods again.

I'm sure it will be fine.

I'm guessing it'll be seen as a 'return to form' after Fallout 4 and Starlink.

There isn't really another smash hit game that scratches the same itch that Skyrim did for people.

i understand the appeal of elder scrolls because the fantasy and world is really cool but so many other developers have just taken the open world rpg to a completely different level than the elder scrolls games

yeah, its been like 10 years since skyrim but i really dont see them pushing the genre this time if anything itll probably feel old

Ive yet to see an open-world rpg that has the same feel of a Bethesda game, where you can live and play however you want and take everything that isnt bolted down, redecorate etc

30% is pretty optimistic given their recent track record tbh. Giving the benefit of the doubt they'll get their shit together and improve their meme engine enough to get things to an acceptable level (as is their tradition).

I honestly don't see them messing with Elder Scrolls 6 all that much. I think the worst case scenario is that the game feels a bit janky compared to other games.

Why's that? I enjoyed Fallout 3 and Skyrim well enough despite the obvious mediocrity in terms of gameplay, graphics, level design, writing, and animation even at release. Admittedly for Skyrim that's ignoring any ridiculous bugs that were patched out via the community patch. I'm not sure they were good games but I had a good time with them.

No reason to think their main team won't pull off another quality, if unpolished, massive-world experience.

I enjoy them despite most of the constituent parts being mediocre. More than the sum of their parts, at least on the first go around. It also helps that most of the jank is more hilarious than game breaking. I will admit every replay attempt has been a boring experience for me, but I got a lot of play time out of those first runs anyway.

My concern is more with the publishing side of things. 76 and paid mods added in Skyrim/FO4 are showing a new level of cynical monetization that may or may not impact how development is managed.

I'm worried they're going to make it Skyrim 2.0. I really hope they bring back what made Oblivion great and remove all the shitty things that made Skyrim what it is.
What things are those? I personally think that Oblivion and Morrowind have pretty dumb leveling mechanics. Not in its level of complexity, but how it actually works.

Skyrim didn't go the best direction with leveling either, to be fair.

I don't think the paid mods thing worked but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried again.

On the upside it did lead to mods being a thing on consoles. Which is something.

I've yet to be disappointed by an Elder Scrolls game, though I still consider Fallout 2 the last proper Fallout. That being said, I'll be disappointed if they don't make some drastic improvements. I'll pay for a new game, not a reskin of Skyrim. I want limbs to have effects from damage taken, weather to be more than cosmetic, proper AI so that followers and enemies alike aren't morons.

Tbh, I don't really think a reskin of Skyrim is all that likely. Every series entry has come with drastic changes to the gameplay systems, and with the dev time on this one I have to imagine it'll be the same.

Maybe, but I can imagine a future where Starfield is not so great but TES6 turns out to be fine. They're wrestling with a whole new type of world design that they haven't dealt with before on that one.

My biggest concern is how the Creation Club will be integrated if it's brought over. Remember it was tacked on to Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE, with Starfield and possibly ES6 they would probably design it to be fully integrated... it could be a disaster for open modding.

The gameplay/levelling will be different for sure. Elder Scrolls has skipped a generation so hopefully they can really up what they can do. Bring back levitation!

But I think you will still be a prisoner who is chosen to do something important to stop a cataclysmic event. There will be a fighters guild, a mages guild, a thieves guild and the Dark Brotherhood (although some will have a different name for the region). The overall structure will probably be the same.

Which is totally fine with me.

Honestly at this point anyone who buys it is a Class A mark IMO. I can't help but think that after Skyrim, fallout 4 & 76
Skyrim was excellent and it's pretty obvious that is the shared opinion considering it's tremendous sales numbers and general cultural impact.

FO4 was underwhelming but I think the issue there was that they didn't find the creative inspiration they needed to follow-up on New Vegas. It was stil mechanically excellent and filled with content and effort.

76 was a steaming pile of garbage and mistakes. No excuses there.
