His Joker is bad because he has a face tattoo and grills.

That's not against the actor, that's against creative design. You give a face tattoo and grills to Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight has a bad Joker.

I'm not saying his performance was good or anything. I legitimately don't remember it in lieu of the awful character design. I'm just asking was his performance legitimately bad or was he just a victim of the tats and grills?

It seems pretty... thorough for a marketing gimmick. I think Leto is just an asshole (well, cult leader now, but those things seem to often overlap).

I havent seen Birds of Prey, only the trailer where Harley Quinn says she broke up with him and blows up his home/headquarters. They could do a sequel with more of the sillier comical stuff.

A burnt suffering joker is shown being carried towards a cave and what looks like a glowing pool. Maybe Ras Al Ghul has revived him and plans to use him and another villain as part of a larger plot (perhaps the Jokers part is to unleash the laughing gas throughout Gotham). The Joker is unrecognizable without the jugalo tattoos and its later revealed that its him.

Jared Leto gets a second chance or they could use a new actor in place.

Yeah, although I would blame the writing and directing more than the actor. Leto can perform decently enough when the material is good. He's pretty good in Dallas Buyer's Club for instance

I don't know if that scene was Leto's fault or the director but it definitely ruined the joker in that movie.

leto played the joker I thought the director wanted. I thought he was directed to act that way unique and separated from the last movie joker in the dark knight. He was told how to portray joker pretty much. They wanted an energized lunatic and got one.

I think leto needed more scenes but it would be made the movie ss vs joker which might have been better than having the enchantress as the movie villain.

The problem is the scene is a bad adaptation of a scene from a comic. It's the same comic that Leto's Joker look is based on, and IIRC it was universally panned. I'll see if I can find the page. The point was to show that the Joker was unpredictable, that if he felt like it he'd kill you even if you did what he said.

If he called her a bitch to her face that would be another thing but to think that two criminal dudes don't refer to women as bitches because "it would offend them" is pretty laughably sheltered.

A male calling another male a bitch in that kinda world would definitely result in violence because that is a universal rule when you are locked up and you can pretty much assume Common's character has been locked up before because of his age and occupation (we know Joker has been locked up).

Depends on how much influence he had on the look. The acting was okay but barely had enough screen time to justify the reaction people had, but disney makes sure to get the Russians to control the social media narrative

I was in the same boat as TC on my first watch I thought he wasnt that bad, or I couldnt remember him being so terrible. But having seen some of his scenes again recently Id say he screwed the pooch.

as far as I know, the Joker has never been like that, until that movie. he's not supposed to have tattoos and shit

IIRC the only other joker with tattoos is from the hilariously bad All-Star Batman & Robin, and even then it's not across his face. It's a dragon tattoo on his back:

I don't think it's easy at all. It's definitely one of those roles where you either nail it or you're are a total train wreck with not much room in-between.

They just picked some exceptional people for the role before. Until Leto.

'Main bitch' is literally a term used by promiscuous gangsters and pimps.

You act as if a character playing the Joker actually cares about feminism.

If Common would had just said "you know what Joker, Harley is a bitch" that is disrespectful. "Bad" in that sense meant she is pretty. In criminal language he said "your girl is sure a pretty lady".

Also Common's character is already looking intimidated by Joker before he even said it. So why would he disrespect Joker in his own fuckin club with no muscle with him. Did he wanna die or did he just accidentally disrespect the Joker? If the rule is you don't call someone's main "lady" a bitch then how did Common not know that? He's older than Joker and had been in the game longer I presume.

I believe the above post more, that it was more showing his unpredictability. We'll just have to agree to disagree, the only arguments I have are anectdotal from being around criminals for years and doing a little time myself

He's convinced his brilliance was just ruined in editing. Then he went off and formed that weird island adventure cult where people in white follow him around like he's Jesus. So I'd say he's coping pretty well.
