That's outrageously impressive. And was it consistently in place all that time, or were there decades when it was in hiatus and then had a comeback. I just don't know.

It's just that, empires have fallen and risen and fallen again, but the very same organized religion has still survived it all. Just kinda terrifying in a way. Awe inspiring, but in this case the original meaning of the word awe

Well... yes and no. I mean, first off, you could say the same thing about at least 4 religions. Second, Christianity has changed a lot. From cult to mystery cult to political monolith to fractured into as many flavors as you can imagine.

religions evolve and branch naturally - they're just ever drifting memeplexes with potent mechanisms that have become baked in facilitating sustainable social management

if denominations become static or otherwise stuck in time, it tends to be a reaction of some sort - usually to external threats or the perception of such - rather than the product of a natural progression
