Pretty hilarious he sees it as punishment for going to school as opposed to payment. You get a good or service, and you pay for it. They should've told you the tuition up front.

So you now have a marketable skill that will enable you to get a good job and pay the debt off fairly easily. Isn't that the point of the loan?

Why didn't you go to a more affordable college then
yea you could go to Billy Bob's Discount College for $10k~ a year or you could go to a decent state school for $20k~ (assuming you're able to commute there & not live on campus). either way you are graduating with 5 figures in debt, good luck kids

Did tuition like skyrocket since 20011 or something?

I went to Purdue and it was like $6k-$8k a year tops.

I feel like housing costs are ignored when looking at college costs. As in, for me, I'd get confused at the prices people were saying, but then I realized they were rolling in housing costs with it

A lot of schools require students to live on campus now. My university started requiring it of freshmen while I was there. It was like 2k for half a crappy cement block room, 1.5k for a mandatory meal plan, and another thousand in various fees per semester.

I'm curious if those housing prices are "real" or if they end up going in one big pool of money that ends up paying for academic stuff in the end

I heard from one of the interns that Virginia Tech requires freshman to live on campus, but they also dont have enough on-campus housing. They supposedly ended up renovating a former hotel across the freeway for some of the freshmen where it counts as on campus but is like a 30 minute walk to campus

A lot of genius decisions going on down there

Edit: yeah he wasnt exaggerating lol

Little bit of column A, little bit of column B. Those were just the prices for the bare bones dorms. I know that the nicer dorms cost a lot more. The "on-campus" apartments were a complete ripoff: easily three times the price of a non-university apartment the same (or close to it) distance from campus.
