I assume you mean the sentient AI of scifi. The AI we have is nowhere near that and isn't even on a path towards that

Gene editing is more advanced currently than AI or cybernetics so thats the new frontier

Im sure with future tech those will become an issue though

Genetics

Gene editing has advancements every year with breakthroughs. AI is far far away. We dont even have a full grasp of how the human consciousness is defined let alone reproduced with computers.

I Honestly dont think real self aware AI is possible this century.

Or how about we just don't give our AI human minds with the slightest potential for free will because that doesn't really help us at all and there are so many apocalyptic movies about that exact scenario?

Cynetics are faaar better for space travel due to nontflesh being superior to flesh when it comes to lightyear distance travel, dealing with variable temperature and lack of gravity, or need for radiation shielding.

the general trend with humanity is towards technological democratization, whether by voluntary cession from the powers that be, or reinvention by the masses

basically, it's going to happen whether we like it or not

oh, I didn't mean it that way, if I was so concerned about it being unoriginal I wouldn't have stuck with the other times I saw it after the first one.

I was just commenting that it seems like a pretty common dividing line for factions, like they're each seen as sorta the pinnacle of two completely distinct lines of science/research that result in extremely different yet extremely advanced civilizations. It's a very "change the world to fit you" vs "change yourself to fit the world" comparison a lot of the time and I like it a lot

I don't know where the article is as I read it in a magazine over a year ago but in it an AI was placed inside one of those "dog" robots with an arm we usually see in AI testing videos. In a astounding short amount of time (can't remember how short) the AI learned to keep balance and walk and then it learned how to open the door without any human interaction, it was just exploring it's own systems first writing it's own routines to control everything and then started exploring and interacting with its surroundings.

Basically it broke all records and to put it into context it was as if an infant aged to 8 years old within a month. We might not see a Cybernet but AI research and development is in the fast lane right now.

If I were crippled I would probably opt for genetic.
