Leaving minimum wage at $7.25 doesn't fix any problems for minority workers. Legalizing slave wages would make things infinitely worse.

Perhaps the problem is more with institutional racism in general than setting price floors, or (God forbid) promoting higher wages all around

Hell, I even agree that the minimum wage argument is a moot point as long as wages are tied to the "value" of the worker rather than the value of what they actually produce

I provided data and hard evidence, notice how you entirely ignored to address it.

Because none of what you posted had anything to do with small businesses, which is what the article I posted was actually talking about.

And if anything, your "evidence" suggests that institutional racism and racial bias is more at play than anything else here.

1. We are a federation and many states establish their own minimum wages.
2. Only 2% of workers actually make minimum wage in the US, and half of them are below the age of 25. The minimum wage gets a disproportionate amount of attention as a political issue tbh.

Most people advocating minimum wage increases don't make minimum wage. They make $8-10 an hour. Raising the minimum wage to $15 benefits far more people than just those making minimum wage.

Let's also get one thing straight here. Small businesses are also competing with larger companies to attract talent. Many of them already offer higher than minimum wages or, if not, more benefits.

Most proposed minimum wage increases are to address the fact that while the cost of everything is getting higher, wages have largely stagnated. Keeping wages at $7.25 isn't helping minorities, so I'm not sure how exactly that's supposed to be an argument against increasing the minimum wage.

Larger firms actually pay higher wages and benefits to their workers. The smaller your company is the less productive it is which impacts their ability to pay higher wages.

And wages have not stagnated! That's a myth.

The people that advocate for minimum wage increases that only have minimal skill required are advocating for their own unemployment and for price increases on the goods and services that employers provide, the latter renders the wage hike they might have received entirely redundant as what they are buying also increased in price alongside their wage increase.. An employer has to dish out $600 a week for just one full-time worker with minimal skill if a mandatory minimum of $15 per hour is adopted. They have to make up for the costs of these price increases, and this isnt including the utility bills and every other thing that other businesses are charging them in increased prices due to the wage hike.

Bruh if work needs to be done it doesn't suddenly not need to be done just because it's more expensive.

Except you are ignoring one crucial thing, and this is very simple economics: if people are making more money, they are willing to spend more money.

If someone is only making $7.25 per hour at their job and only barely staying afloat, they are not going to spend money at your business unless they absolutely need your services and can't get it anywhere else for cheaper.

The thing is, large companies like Wal-Mart or Amazon can afford to bring their prices down to a price that lower-wage workers can afford to pay, but smaller businesses, with tighter margins, can't.

It's a damned travesty, yes, but $7.25 is the federal minimum for hourly(non-tipped!) wages. Many states and some cities have a higher minimum.
Here it is by state:
Alabama - $7.25
Alaska - $10.19
Arizona - $12
Arkansas - $10
California - $13
Colorado- $12
Connecticut- $11(will become $12 in September, and $15 by 2023)
Delaware- $9.25
Washington D.C.- $14(will become $15 July 1st)
Florida- $8.56
Georgia- $5.15(state minimum overridden by federal)
Hawaii- $10.10
Idaho- $7.25
Illinois- $9.25
Indiana- $7.25
Iowa- $7.25
Kansas- $7.25
Kentucky- $7.25
Lousiana- $7.25(Louisiana has no minimum wage law of its own)
Maine- $12
Maryland- $11(will be $15 by 2025)
Massachusetts- $12.75
Michigan- $9.65
Minnesota- $10
Mississippi- $7.25(no state minimum)
Missouri- $9.45
Montana- $8.65
Nebraska- $9
Nevada- $7.25
New Jersey- $11
New Mexico- $9
New York- $11.80
North Carolina- $7.25
North Dakota- $7.25
Ohio- $8.70
Oregon- $11.25
Pennsylvania- $7.25
Rhode Island- $10.50
South Carolina- $7.25(no state minimum)
South Dakota- $9.30
Tennessee- $7.25(no state minimum)
Texas- $7.25
Utah- $7.25
Vermont- $10.96
Virginia- $7.25(the newly Democratic-controlled state government is working on legislation which would increase the state minimum to $15 by 2025)
Washington- $13.50
West Virginia- $8.75
Wisconsin- $7.25
Wyoming- $5.15(state minimum overridden by federal)

Oddly, states with high minimum wages are not wastelands filled with the unemployed and abandoned by all businesses!

Most states are far above that.

WI is is going up a lot soon, and I think its the only state left at 7.25.

A Federal minimum is ACTUALLY stupid because the economy is different in every state. 7.25 in WI is a lot different than 7.25 in California.

So yeah this really isn't an issue.

If you don't want to make "starvation wages" then maybe your family should have made smarter life choices? And here's a good thought experiment for advocates of minimum wage hikes...

Why not make the minimum wage $100/hour? Those workers will go out and spend all of that extra money and somehow they'll be able to consume more goods despite not producing more goods.

If you want the minimum wage to cover the cost of living in every area then why not a federal wage of $100/hour? That would surely cover the cost of living in every part of the country, right?
