The adults are pretty infuriating of course. But I think it's better than the movie, which I disliked as a kid (not that it was necessarily bad, I just didn't like it)

Neil Patrick Harris is amazing at being awful, and definitely better than Jim Carrey. He actually has a lot more... showmanship.

I'm on season 2 now. This is ridiculous. If Esme is rich and in love with Olaf, why doesn't he just seduce her and get all her money? Seems like she'd be willing to give it away for him (in more ways than one)

Just seems like so much work to go after the children's fortune.

It's a great adaptation. The only weakness is the final season, but that's apparently true of the last three books too.

As to your question, Olaf really likes money. And maybe some other stuff.

Well I'm assuming he's doing it for hate or revenge of some sort Since that's already Esme's reasoning.

I was already told that the ending is infuriating and fans hated it/complained which worries me. Plus Patrick Warburton warning me every episode doesn't help, I'm worried about getting too invested and so just keep the show/characters at an arm's length so I don't get too annoyed if it does suck.

The main complaint about the book ending is that it doesn't explain things, but the show spends a lot more time doing so. For instance, all of the stuff with the secret organization isn't even hinted at until the fifth book.
