On my end? I've openly liked girls I was just friends with. It's easy if you don't get in your feelings about them not wanting to date you. Just don't obsess over them and keep seeking elsewhere. You don't have to wait at their door. You can just come back and knock on it again here and their.

It's also been the opposite

It can ruin it, yes

Namely if you were just friends with her in the first place because you interested in her, and upon the realization that she does not reciprocate, you then start to dial it back with her. This is either done naturally, so you can meet more girls, or less organically because you were never actually her friend in the first place and just using the friendship as a segue into a relationship.

If shes interested then it ruins the friendship and just starts a romantic relationship.

If not shell be a lil defensive now knowing you have a motive.

Only happened once, but yeah, ruined things both ways. The pain of hanging out with someone you love, who doesn't reciprocate, was too much for me, so I cut it off.

But then it turned out she did like me and eugh, high school drama. We banged and she stabbed me and then we broke up.

It can definitely ruin it. Had a good female friend completely stop talking to me in HS after my asshole friend told her I liked her.

Because you were a shy boy with ulterior motives. Not because you liked her; but because you never told her.

Hmm. I mean, I was never really shy. Way too brash for that. I guess she just felt weird about it or something. She moved shortly after and came back after a few years and complete ghosted me when I said hello in the hallway. Doesn't matter and it was a long time ago, but eh.

It's some moral obligation to do this now?

It can, yes. At the same time it can lead to those feelings being returned.

The same can hold true for girls asking as well.

No, but if she learns about it from a secondary source, it's a different scenario than being upfront (or even coy) yourself.
