Nah. The only games that I play from the early 3D days are RPG and the N64 is severely lacking in those. Everything else just feels off.

The controller would have to be redesigned and then remapped to be appealing for everyone but Nintendo is too fucking lazy for that shit.

Its not on the level of no mercy. Coming from someone who only watched wcw back then. I played no mercy cause it was fun not cause i watched wwf. Funny i played wwf games as a kid but didn't watch it.

Revenge was good for ita time but it was before no mercy iirc. Mayhem was probably better over all but I hated how the wrestlers walked and moved. Iirc when walking they had their hands like fucking me burns off the Simpson's
Yeah I havent watched wrestling for over 15 years but still play the occasional game. They can be pretty fun.

I can't really figure out who these mini consoles are made for. Or the retropie that evidently inspired it, for that matter.

The audience who skipped an entire generation, then decided they were interested afterall, then decided rather than a downloadable or even disc collection, they would prefer a box that takes up space and HDMI ports?

Maybe the audience who was never into video games but suddenly decided to get into them, and start with a 30 year old platform?

The audience who sold all their video games and later decided to get back into it?

A N64 mini would not have the Rare hits, cutting down its hit game pool like by a half. Nintendo knows this.

Plus, to be fair, they want to make bank re-releasing OOT and MM every single generation on their virtual console or whatever gimmick they have each gen

I'm imaging this lineup

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo, DK64 and Yoshi's Story are all super dated
There's literally no point at all in playing SSB64 unless you're really into comp for that particular game like Godnorgosh is
MK64 is kinda outclassed, SM64 I have sort of a soft spot for but you're better off playing that on DS anyway despite the crappy controls

Both Zeldas, Paper Mario and the unlisted Kirby 64 all still hold up. Maybe F-Zero might too. But it wouldn't justify the $80 price tag it would have. MK64 is probably the one N64 game that's less dated than its SNES counterpart

Pilot Wings on the N64 is so much better than the SNES one imo

Given Nintendo's chummy relationship with Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut a deal for the Rare games.

Yes but what I'd want to play would absolutely require modding. Ain't no way Beetle Adventure Racing is getting into it.

If the emulation is good and it's as easy to modify as the SNES classic then probably. However unlike the SNES N64 emulation is much harder so it's quite possible it won't play it's stock games well and even if you can mod it for more games many won't work at all or have really obvious issues.

I forgot about this.

The N64 was quite complex, it may be too hard to emulate well

This is probably why it hasn't been made yet, tbh. You'd probably have to get fairly expensive hardware to run N64 properly.

Let me pay $100 for 25 classic N64 games. I just worry about how dated some of them will be.

I am bothered that all the hyping I did for Jet Force Gemini before Rare Replay came out blew up in my face with how awkward it is to play in reality.

No. I really enjoyed the N64 in its time but honestly it's hard to get over how ugly most games from that generation look now.

This.

I tried playing 4 player deathmatch in GoldenEye and I feel like I could barely even see what was going on or what I was aiming at.

Not all games are bad tho. Mario and Zelda were fine. But all the FPS games need to be buried and forgotten.

I always dwell on the idea that SDTV games are ruined forever thanks to HDTVs.

I was playing God of War on the PS2 and I was disturbed by how hard it was to make out Kratos when he was standing far away from the camera.

I have a CRT that takes S-Video and it makes N64 games look way better than sticking it on an HDTV. These days those old consoles have expensive HDMI mods for 720-1080p output, but I'd rather just stick to a CRT for now.

If you're really interested in playing a lot of old games, you can probably get a CRT for pretty cheap somewhere.

This WAS a CRT. Just because the image looks better in general doesn't mean the resolution is any higher.

Ive bought the nes, snes, and the Genesis. I love all of them. I will very likely buy anything else. The only exception so far has been the PS mini. The library on that thing was just so horrid.

I might get it just as a crazy Nintendo enthusiast but it definitely isn't something I have much interest in. I don't know, maybe a lot of people were just the right age and have nostalgia for the games, but I thought even at the time that Mario 64 and the Zelda games weren't really super great (even though visually cool at the time) but they are just a pain to look at and play now. You can throw on Mario Kart and Smash Bros but with the modern incarnations of the game I don't see that much appeal after a few rounds.

Paper Mario holds up and would be cool.

Maybe the Kirby and F-Zero games are okay?

Most of my good N64 memories were third party games we'll never see again. Goldeneye is almost impossible, and WCW/nWo Revenge basically *is* impossible. And again, even those, fun at the time, after revisiting them for a few minutes I don't see spending any real time with them. Of course the WWE won't license a dead property like WCW to be used, No Mercy maybe would have the tiniest shot but they'd go in and edit a bunch of things and it wouldn't be the same... at that point maybe a selling point would be just include a modern roster No Mercy style game or something weird like that... but I don't see anyone putting in that effort for a one off on a classic console.

Not sure what third party games would be out there and likely included. Maybe Bomberman. Mega Man 64? The worst Castlevania games?

Yeah. We all have those means.

The point of these things is to recreate the feel of the original hardware. Something you dont get by playing these games on your phone or PC. I have MAME just like everybody else. But theres a huge difference between playing TMNT on my computer and playing it on an original cabinet. Its night and day, even though its the same exact software.

Yeah I get that, but it just feels so late. I mean, a great deal of the modding community has poured forth lots of awesome projects that are not relatively so difficult that it puts people off.

These are simply, we know lots of folks ride that nostalgia wave. Lets make some money off that.. Which is no problem, businesses and all, but after seeing some vids of these things its like... why? The ps1 mini is nearly a brick out of the box. But hey, people will spend what they want to spend on.
