But much like America itself, the comic book industry is built on the back of immigrants - and the roots of many popular comic book superheroes stem from the lives and experience of their Jewish creators.Sure, but keep in mind that America was founded by white supremacists, and subsequently governed by white supremacists, and the ruling class never disavowed white supremacists even when they started a civil war. I don't think Moore is trying to argue that individual creators are explicitly white supremacists, much like the immigrants and slaves who built America weren't necessarily white supremacists. --- Stop being so aggressively argumentative for no reason. - UnfairRepresent ... Seeing as there is no set definition of what makes a superhero, the argument could be made. DC's Wonder Woman and Marvel's Hercules are just mythical figures placed in comics alongside people with capes and masks. But in the sense of masked heroes with secret identities and mild mannered aliases, that began with Zorro/Scarlet Pimpernel. I think both of you have good points. The modern comic superhero comes from a lot of places. One part is the caped hero from earlier modern culture (and yeah, although there might be some of it in Birth of a Nation or whatever that's not the origin of it, that's just dumb). But a good chunk of the modern superhero comes from myths and legends. And wouldn't you know it just so happens that western culture ("white" culture, if you must) is dominant as we all know, we don't need to get into that, so it might seem like superheros and comics and what have you are racist. I think like many things we just need to let other cultures be appreciated (in a natural way please, I think trying to forcefully diversify western culture is first of all stupid but more importantly probably actually counterproductive) and we'll see that there's nothing inherently "racist" about superheros. So yeah this from Alan Moore just reeks of meta-racism. ... Copied to Clipboard!
