Emailed the DosA for my school and gave her my decision. It was a good try I guess.

I dropped out of college after my first year.

My first year would have been over in May :/

Yeah, that's what people have told me to make me feel a little better about it, but I still feel like I failed people.

College isn't for everyone, be happy you dropped out now and didn't waste any more time and money on a degree and job you would only end up regretting.

Yeah, it was a $42,000/year private art school. I got all but like $5,000 of it covered through grants and scholarships, so I'll have some to pay back, but not nearly as much as I would have.

is it college itself that you had an issue with, or the kinda college that you went to?

If you ever go back to college, I would suggest starting at a community college first. It's simply just a smarter and budget friendly way without your college loans sky rocketing.

Mostly the curriculum, the snoody teachers, and just felt really out of place with most students being either right out of HS or a little after. Also the idea of a generalized education and having to be "well rounded" feels like I'm wasting my time and money to be taught things I do not wish to learn that have nothing to do with my focal point.

So what's your next move? Is there a plan for moving forward? Was there a change in ambitions?

I'm going to get a part-time job I think to help out my fiancee more with bills and for something to do, probably dedicate my free time to getting this book published. I have two publishers interested in it atm, but with everything with school and home life I haven't written in it in over a month.

Eh, it's not jiulliard, but it's a pretty prestigious school and one of the oldest art schools in the country.

I mean, that's true though? Their track record for people getting work out of school is really, really good. I don't even like the school, just saying.

I'm curious. A fine arts degree is like the definition of "well rounded " and general degree isn't it? What exactly in the classes were a surprise to you m

Nothing besides the two art history courses everyone has to take no matter their major. Like, I understand it's not just a comic degree and that an accredited BFA program anywhere is going to be based on the idea of a well rounded education, but that's just not for me.

No worries man, I dropped out twice and spent half a decade fucking around before I went back to college. Better to realize you're not happy and cut your losses than to continue to invest yourself (financially and physically/emotionally) into an effort that you already know isn't what you want.

At that price it was 100% the right decision. You'd need a very lucrative career or rich parents to pay off 2+ years of that.

I think I would have come out at like $36,000 owed after the 4 years we calculated. It was $42,000, but I got a lot of grants and scholarships. I think my actual loans totaled out at like 9,000 and some change per year.

Ive worked with federal and private student loan collections companies for four years.

You made the right choice, TC.

Go to community college for undergrad if you go back. Its an older crowd, less expensive, and gets the dumb classes you dont care about out of the way.

I get people going to fancy schools always close to defaulting.
