My city already tried to address having a mental health facility designed specifically for men and it got shutdown 3 years later because of low attendance. It got restructed back up as a regular mental health facility with 95% of their patients being females. The rough part is men are just less likely to seek out help vs women and we need to bring more awareness that seeking help doesn't make a person weaker or less of a man.
thats only part of the problem

its not just that men are less likely to seek help
its also that society at large has a habit of treating men like shit when they do seek help...ESPECIALLY underprivileged men

in a lot of cases its the latter that causes the former, men see how other men are treated and stay silent
and NO its not all some code of "toxic masculinity" theyre striving to adhere to until it kills them, thats a cop out
its the widespread dumbass mentality that men are the disposable sex, which is condoned by both portions of men AND women
whats killing todays men is so much more than what can be summed up in some stupid buzz term

but if you need a word I got a more accurate one: negligence towards male problems that are hurting boys and men exclusively and the common presumption that they're too privileged to have anything justifiably worth crying about

and statistically women are more likely to attempt suicide, men are just more likely to use methods that are absolute
too bad there's dramatically less male-specific support institutions, partly because they keep getting shut down due to radfems protesting

i say this as a fuckin intersectional feminist whos sick of seeing the selective hypocrisy of members in my own party
and it pains me to admit that feminism CAN'T solve this one, it's actually contributing to it when applied poorly to cater to idiot far leftists
ffs the lady, Erin Pizzey, who opened the first safehouses for female DV victims had asshole radfems bangin on her door for tryin to help male victims too
shes the kind of feminist i looked up to, because she understood that being a victim is not exclusive to one sex, shes the real deal and they couldn't handle that

This is so ass backwards I'm not really sure what angle to tackle it from. This might be the most informationally dense gish gallop of all time.

Yeah. KillerSlaw's comment is easily the dumbest one is this topic so far.

Killerslaw's point was less "anyone who's scared of death is weak" and more that committing suicide is one of the ballsiest things you can do. And it is. To commit such a strong act of self-harm with no knowing of what comes next? It's pretty tough

It doesn't really line up with the topic at hand though

That isn't the mindset of the people committing suicide here. Maybe, like, feudal era samurai have something like that.

While it might take a lot of urge to kill yourself, it doesn't stop it from being a careless and arguably cowardly way to deal with your personal problems. You're basically throwing the towel at life.

Calling it cowardly is significantly more ignorant than you could possibly interpret that guy's post as, especially if you've never actually been in that spot for a lengthy period of time

It's not a matter of being cowardly or brave. It's just want of relief and escape, possibly atonement. "I am hurting everyone around me / I don't deserve to live / everything is so painful please just let it end"

This isn't surprising at all.

Why would a weak man kill himself? The weak man is scared of death.
idk why people are raging about this
its true
the framing of suicide as cowardly is fucking moronic lol
to end your own life is brave as shit

The part that grinds my gears is men are generally expected to carry this persona of masculinity with none of the benefits that previously accompanied it. Just roll back the clock a handful of decades and you see stoic, strong men holding jobs, providing for families, being pillars of their communities, being providers and hard workers etc. Even if they weren't allowed to be emotional and even if they were considered basically disposable, they got something out of it; pride and respect. What do men get now for shouldering that same burden? Derision and scorn. You working hard at the job? Your boss doesn't care, you'll never get a raise and chances are you'll be replaced by someone in 5 years who will do it cheaper or else be replaced by a robot. Your wife won't care because she's busy working too. Your kids don't care because they hardly see you between daycare and school and extracurriculars. Men, especially successful men, are blamed for everything from crime rates to college enrollment statistics to office layouts to sock fashion, because the world is a giant bucket and every crab is given a Buzzfeed or Jezebel article to write.

I mean, maybe if you're at a low skill blue collar job that everyone knows is going to be automated?
