My grandfather was a man much given to offering pearls of wisdom such as, "They should round up all the [racist expletive] and put 'em all in great big camps, and then just kill the whole lot of them in gas chambers. We oughta do like what Hitler done."

I'd have had a problem with that kind of talk if he'd lived long enough to see me marry my first wife, who was black. I don't play nice with anyone who tells me my wife isn't even a human being; if you sit back and let someone spew that kind of shit at you, what kind of a man are you?

If I can get something out of them, I won't disown them. Putting up with all of my mom's hateful shit (much of it directed squarely at me) is setting me up for a pretty nice inheritance. I don't want or need it but I'm going to take it and use it for causes she hates.

First of all, I apologize for the wording of my comment, got a little heated from the PTSD the subject of the topic gave me. It is not a manipulation tactic, and I definitely don't want to sound like a preacher to anyone. I now wish that I am able to go back and delete my post, but it's there and has already been quoted multiple times so i'll deal with it.

Personally for me, i'm guilty of creating drama many, many times in my life ranging from petty nonsense to life altering hate. Obviously at the time when these events happen, it was easy to tell myself "screw em, im better off, whatever" but time moves on and time moves fast. I think of how old this planet is, how long humans typically live, and I ask myself if it really was worth it to hold grudges and permanently destroy relationships with family and friends alike. As a result, I now have a lot of moments where I remember my own actions, the times people once close to me turned their backs, and it causes feeling of sadness, anger, and grief.

What they say would get me put in purg if I repeated it here so I'm not gonna do that.

I'm white, my wife is Hispanic. My oldest kid, from a previous marriage, had a white mother so initially my family didn't care. After marrying my current wife and my oldest calling her mom basically invalidated her race to them. My other two kids obviously are white/hispanic and have been straight up insulted and brought to tears, even by my own parents.

So yeah. Family can say what they want about me but when you start being racist pos's to my wife and kids, you're nothing to me, blood or not.

How much time do you spend on thinking about people turning their backs on you compared to the reason they did it tho? Cause a lot if the time when people feel like it's them against the world, it's because of how they approach the world. I can't weigh in on your grudges, cause I have no idea what they're about. But if it's something that isn't consistently happening or changed the entire course of your life, it usually isn't worth holding onto.

I also accept your deletion. I'm not basing my opinions on you around it. I was for a minute, but I see people who realize emotion driven comments in hindsight as more forgivable. Not that my opinion should hold any weight here.

My tolerance level for bullshit when it comes to strangers on the internet is lower than for people in my actual life. I block people out online for much less than it would take for me to disown somebody IRL. If a close family/friend said something truly hurtful or offensive and wouldn't back down, I am willing to consider blocking them out but it's hard to say when this is such an abstract hypothetical.
