Dimitri is a poor man's Arthas and Edelgard is...unlikable.

Claude is the best character and the route has the most complete conclusion.

But if you are planning to play all 3(...), start with blue as it will give the least amount of spoilers for the other routes.

But yeah this depends on what you intend to do. If it's just one, absolutely Yellow. If it's all 3, Blue, Red, then Yellow. In Red you have to be careful because there's an alternate path there that's just a shitty version of Yellow that there's basically no reason to play.

I picked Yellow because it seemed like the gayest house, but Edelgard/FemByleth seems to be the most popular gay romance so maybe I'm doing something wrong. Anyway I hated the school stuff and pretty much stopped playing forever shortly after making the choice so I will never know if I was right or not.

I would assume anybody playing this who doesn't intend to turn a 70 hour game into a 210 hour game is going to insist their first pick is the best one.

Yellow is the easy "one run" pick, though. Longer, more interesting maps, way more plot revelations, dubstep.

I have only played Red and Silver to date. Silver is apparently discount Yellow.

My understanding is that Yellow is the most "complete" experience but I'll throw my support behind Red for I suppose while echoing the sentiment that the route definitely feels rushed/incomplete. So if that's a dealbreaker then uh... probably Yellow.

As someone who started with Red and likes Edelgard best, Yellow is definitely the best choice for a first route.

Just finished Yellow (and am happy with it) but now that people are saying the other routes feel incomplete, I'm not in a hurry to play the other routes (it's a rather long game). But I would like to get to know the other characters, so I'll play it again one day.

If you play Yellow and Red, you've played the vast majority of the game's content. Blue has less unique content, unfortunately.

I'm about to finish Blue tonight and I can't imagine playing through this game 2 more times. The combat is so ridiculously easy I've been skipping extra battles for like the last 4 or 5 months and most of my cast is still overleveled.

Also the 2nd half of the game is basically just an eat dinner simulator to max support bonds.

Oh yeah, that's something to keep in mind if you haven't started yet. Normal is basically easy mode, while Hard is just like normal. Don't play on Normal.

Would go Yellow -> Red -> Blue for multiple playthroughs. That gives you the least repetitiveness I think.

Yellow is absolutely the worst one to start with for an all house set of playthroughs. It makes for a perfect wrap up and set of plot revelations. Blue and Red will feel significantly worse if you start with Yellow, even though I like Yellow the least as far as the house itself.

It is 100% set up for Yellow to either be the last playthrough or the only playthrough.

Yellow should 1000% be either last or your only playthrough. Not sure what people are thinking saying otherwise. Go blue -> red -> yellow if you want to do all three.

"Yellow"/Golden Deer is the path that reveals the most about the story/setting

Blue Lions is the path that reveals the least, and is more character focused than any of the others.

I don't think a good "red"/Black Eagles quick description like the other two

Yellow is the best by far if you only want to play once, if you think you'll play more you go in any order but blue -> other stuff is probably best since you'll have more stuff to look forward to figuring out that way

That's not the short one! It's 21 chapters to Red's 18! (Blue and Yellow both have 22)

Blue - the characters sink best with the story. The first half of the game seems to have been written specifically for this house, since virtually every mission involves a relative of one of the students. The story gives one of the more interesting versions of the story, without being too lore heavy.

If you enjoy that one I would recommend doing red next. It will give you a completely different perspective and understanding of edlegard, and it's the shortest so you'll burn out less.

Yellow and church are effectively the same, just one has red students instead. The actually story is pretty tacked on, but it's a good lore dump. I would do it last because you'll get some added context for what was happening in the other routes.

If I were just going to do one I would do blue. Yellow has in many peoples opinion the best characters (I personally disagree), but doesn't really have a story to tell. Red is too morally ambiguous without giving proper perspective for actions beyond edlegard, leading to it being drastically more straightforward (and worse as a result) if it's your only route. Blue gives the most complete perspective of the main narrative of the game, has solid characters, and is clearly the route much of the game was written around. The others will provide a lot of context and depth to that story, but for me it is the only one that has it's full impact standing on its own, and would likely be a little worse had you played other routes first.
