Fuck, even the 2nd Captain America, the franchise being referenced, had a pretty apocalyptic scenario.

At the end, the Avengers defeat Mecha Red Skull, and it falls on top of the real Red Skull, but we don't know if he died, or his glass dome sunk under the floor and he escaped.

This is one of those rare games that I pick up and beat in a single day. I played the actual arcade game once when I was about six or seven, but that was it. I didn't make it past the first level.

I gotta say, the ending does little to satisfy.

It turns out the Red Skull you fight is just a robot. Once you defeat Mecha Red Skull, the real one escapes and then laughs at you.

Wait what does Red Skull plan on doing if he blew up the Earth?

Has he figured out how to grow food on the Moon

That's from the Sega version. If I got the chance, I'd like to try the arcade version.

IIRC the SNES one looked really good but the gameplay was just kind of off. I still played it a ton.

My brother and I and a couple random strangers beat it in the arcade way back in the day. For some reason I was really drawn to it, even though at the time I was somewhat aware of Captain America but didn't know anyone else, including the villains. I thought Red Skull was a Red Skelton joke or something (although come to think of it, not sure why I knew who that was as a kid...?).

I've never played that version. I've seen videos and the graphics are better than the Sega version. I've heard that the development time was cut in half though and so they had to take shortcuts in gameplay and such.
