As everyone knows, California sucks. LA is a soulless shit hole, San Francisco is making dystopian novels true to life, and Sacramento, well, lol.

The part north of Yosemite is nice enough. And turns out San Diego is awesome.

Before: 1/10 state
Having visited San Diego now: 3/10 state

Balboa park is awesome and the people are awesome. Every other part of Cali south of Yosemite, the people have sucked. And the economy is good enough you could live in an awesome city and have a good job. Other parts the good jobs are in shitty cities.

Housing prices arent much worse than Seattle, it seems. My place is worth $750-800k, I could get a decent place here I think.

I've been to all 3 multiple times and as someone who doesn't really give a shit about the beach as much as most people San Diego is definitely not my spot.

SF and LA have way more events, cultural spots, cooler sights and WAY better food imo. SD does have a good beer community though.

SF and LA just have distractions to try to make you forget they are shit holes.

And ive had better Mexican and seafood here than any place Ive been in CA before, have done probably 50 California trips over the years.

A lot of the Orange County areas are pretty nice in general, though I guess you could say a lot of suburbs are pretty similar. The big difference is that there are a ton of Asian and Mexican places here together, which is far superior to most things.

Also visited Yosemite recently by entering through Fresno. It's definitely one of the best places I've ever been to.

San Fran, my sister lives there, is probably the worst place I've been to maybe ever. I try not to go to too many shitholes but jesus that was a massive shithole

SF and LA just have way cooler shit to do if you're not into the beach. Concerts, theatre, good sightseeing, cool tourist shit. San Diego is cool for the beach and breweries and basically that's it.

Most of California's top rated seafood restaurants are in SF. And not only do you have better Mexican food in LA, but also a better selection and more range of Mexican food. Like it's not even close. I would give SD definitely craft beer gastro pubs, maybe Italian food (which idgaf about).

Seattle sucks, too, as does much of the I-5 corridor. Overall Washington is better and the Olympic Peninsula, in particular, is as close to heaven on earth as exists.

Hurricane Ridge is so beautiful. Next weekend (2/22) Im going to the Hoh Rainforest to do some hiking and get pictures of ridiculous mossy trees and then try to paint my photos.

You ever do the Dungeness Spit hike? Its been like 10 years for me, doing it again this summer.

I didn't say SF had good Mexican food, I said LA does.

And San Diego has shit for theatre, and not nearly as good of an arts community as either city. Nor as good a nightlife as either city as well.

I drove through California recently and it had some of the most beautiful towns I've ever seen. Drove over to the far west also and it's farm areas were gorgeous.

Checked some of the housing on Zillow for a town I was in as well and they were as expansive as I thought, but there were also quite a few houses on foreclosure for some reason..... or maybe it was just that town specifically

So Dungeness Spit will give you a unique hike you cannot replicate anywhere in the world because of the floor, fauna and unique geography right that. It is one of the must do hikes of Washington.

Hoh Rainforest Loop is what Im doing next week. Although I just realized I have Monday off. So might see if my hiking partner is up for Monday instead.

Rattlesnake Ledge is a good one, bit harder.

Heather / Maple Pass Loop is nice, especially in fall.

Dog Mountain has a couple of good hikes with awesome views of the Columbia River gorge. The one I like most is hard though.

Enchantments Traverse is the only overnight hike Ive done. It was hard but worth it.

Having lived in California for 15 years.

California sucks. The best part was the decent weather all year long.

So long as you dont mind the constant threat of fires and drought and high taxes and gas prices...

I know someone who, for some reason, cant get himself to want to leave. Yet hes tried like 10 times in the past 6 years. He asked me a few days ago if I regretted it or missed California.

No.

No I do not.

Ive left SD about 6 times now and always came back. I can assure you I dont miss any of the 6 places I came back from.

so ya, if you walked down gaslamp and that was it Im sure youd think the nightlife here sucks.
