https://abc3340.com/news/local/proposed-alabama-law-would-require-men-undergo-vasectomy-on-their-50th-birthday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) -- A proposed Alabama law would require all men to undergo a vasectomy within one month of their 50th birthday or after the birth of their third child, whichever comes first.

HB-238 was authored by Rep. Rolanda Hollis (D-Birmingham) and would not only require all men over 50 to receive a vasectomy but it would also require them pay for the procedure out of their own pockets.

The only part of the proposed bill that gives a reasoning behind it is, "Under existing law, there are no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men."

So when it gets shot down they can be like "so why do there have to be laws for women"

Good move.

Isn't Alabama where they passed a law banning abortion for any reason and that led to a 12 year old girl being forced to have a baby after she was raped by her dad?

I believe in some states the woman can't get it done unless she's already had a kid and has the husband's permission

So maybe the bill should've been more like that. No vasectomy unless your wife says it's okay and you already have children.

Well I think she doesn't want old ass men having kids and then leaving them behind. Let's say a 65 year old man has a kid and then dies at 72, he will be leaving a 7 year old child behind. There's a chance that the family will have to rely more on welfare without the father's funds. She is probably trying to prevent that. Also having too many kids probably leads to more government assistance as well. So she probably trying to discourage that as well.

Yeah. And anecdotal though it is, women I know are far more steadfast in their pro-life stance than men.

But yeah the discussion needs to be framed better than "pro-lifers are just old men wanting to CONTROL WOMEN'S BODIES!" and "Pro-choicers just want to MURDER BABIES ALL DAY!"

I don't think either is really much of a thing. It's mostly "I really believe this is a human life and stopping it is murder" and "I don't think it is yet."

Nobody stupid enough to knee jerk react to conservative media's false narrative was going to budge anyway.

And to all the people in this topic getting mad about this (yes, all of you, regardless or your reason), try to understand that the feelings invoked are similar to the feelings women have when they hear about laws restricting their ability to get their tubes tied.
