Also adding better versions of the graphs, which will go to the wiki later since I can't edit the first post. These ones actually show the guru winners, marked by diamonds in front of the curves.

This helps show how the winner eventually falls in the same rage (10-15% for 1v1 contests, 15-20% for multi-ways) even if the other contestants are all over the map.

Trend charts for the favorite Mario character poll:





Because of the 1:00 AM start and end time for this poll which would affect the FNV and SNV, I handled this by having one less hour for the FNV but giving the SNV one extra hour instead.

Waluigi won 3 consecutive hours over Yoshi thanks to the rally, and managed to tie Yoshi in a different hour as well. The rally was most powerful from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, after which the rally dropped off in strength somewhat. Even Waluigi's SNV strength was more than double his pre-rally strength, showing that the rally persisted for the rest of the poll after the rally started.

The rally topic was posted at 11:46 AM. Waluigi was in last place at the time. 11:55 AM is when Toad maxed out at a 59 vote lead over Waluigi. It took exactly one hour to get our first lead change, with Waluigi taking the lead over Toad at 12:55 PM followed by another lead change over Wario at 1:00 PM and Princess Peach at 1:05 PM. That's 3 lead changes in 3 consecutive updates, each affecting 3 different characters. The lead change over Bowser would take a bit longer to happen, and it finally happened at 4:10 PM.

Waluigi's percentage was at 5.85% at 11:55 AM, after which the first signs of the rally start to kick in (percentage increases). Waluigi was gaining percentage for the rest of the poll after the rally kicked in, finishing the poll with 11.85%. Thanks to the rally, Waluigi more than doubled his percentage from his pre-rally number. The rally originated from the Waluigi subreddit and proved to be a major success relative to the size of the subreddit (38465 subscribers right now). The rally topic had 781 points with a 100% upvote rate, although it's possible to get like 1 or 2 downvotes while still technically having an upvote rate of 99.5% or better (which would round up to 100%). The 781 total points on the rally was somewhat close to the estimated number of rallied votes (see below), although the potential exists for people to upvote the rally while not actually voting in the poll.

Estimating the number of rallied votes was pretty easy. I used Waluigi's pre-rally percentage as a basis to determine how many votes I would have to subtract from the final vote total for Waluigi's percentage to be equal to his pre-rally percentage. This comes out to about 750 rallied votes, or about 5 rallied votes on average for each individual 5 minute update that happened after the start of the rally. Even without the rally, this poll would have still managed to break 11000 votes on its own (although just barely).

Guest sign-ups for the first couple divisions are most likely going up sometime tomorrow. Also hope to start putting up Crew write-ups for the first few matches on Tuesday.

In the meantime I had some time to kill, so I did one of those tier list things. This one is a ranking from least interesting to analyze to most interesting to analyze.

Low Tier

Division 5 On the surface, it looks like a very cut-and-dry division. All the top seeds are solid favorites to win every match here, and the only thing still up for debate for me is Witcher 3/God of War. Its hard to look for an upset too because weve seen Galaxy 2 and Fallout New Vegas in the past, and Witcher 3 would have to flop pretty hard for it to lose to one of those games, especially since it seems like one of the games most likely to have gotten stronger since 2015 for various reasons.

Division 7 Similar to Division 5, this one is also looking pretty predictable, though a few of the Round 1 matches are a little less obvious. Dark Souls and The Last of Us are very likely to end up in the Divison Finals, and thats a match Im still going back and forth with at the moment. Dark Souls/MGSV is a rematch we didnt need, and theres no reason for that result to have changed over time. Also not feeling the upset potential with BioShock Infinite or Batman either.

Division 3 SSBUs fourpack is one of the biggest wastes of potential in the entire contest, as Link Between Worlds and even Bayonetta could have done some damage in other parts of the bracket. Outside of that though, this division has a number of debatable topics.

Spider-Man seems like it should be strong enough to win its fourpack, but you could make a case for Minecraft if Spider-Man flops. Undertale is back, and while it should be stronger than its base strength in 2015, it probably wont get rallied again and itll have to deal with anti-votes, so an underperformance is very possible. DMC5/Tropical Freeze is a toss-up in my mind, and Odyssey should be strong, but is it strong enough to beat SSBU?

Mid Tier

Division 1 There are a handful of debatable matches in this division, even though theres no question who is getting out of it. Even in Round 1, there are at least 3 that I could see going either way. Round 2 is mostly locked in after that, though Monster Hunter/Sekiro is giving me some pause. DQXI seems like it should be strong enough to get to the Division Finals, but if it flops, then it could be interesting to see if Monster Hunter or Sekiro can upset it.

Division 6 Round 1 for this division doesnt look too exciting, as the higher seeds should be the favorites here, with the exception of the 8/9 Assassins Creed/Civilization match that looks like a toss-up to me. Sonic Mania/Super Meat Boy is an interesting Round 2 match, but Persona 5 looks to be the clear favorite to win the top half of the division.

The bottom half is a little more exciting, mostly because Kingdom Hearts III is such a wildcard. We havent seen much of it since it missed the Game of the Year polls, but most are expecting it to be nowhere near KH2 in strength. If thats the case, then either Portal 2 or RDR 2 are looking good to meet P5 in the Division Finals in a match with some upset potential if P5 doesnt end up being as strong as people think.

Division 2 The first round in this division looks straight-forward, but after that it gets interesting. Has Mass Effect 2 held up after all this time? Fallout 4 could take it out early. The other Round 2 also matches all have favorites to win, but none of those matches are locks to me. ME2 and RE2 are the most likely to get to the Division Finals, and right now I can see that match going either way. I wouldnt be surprised to see Horizon, FE: Awakening, or Bloodborne there though.

Top Tier

Division 8 Very solid division all around here. Theres a handful of debatable meaningless Round 1 matches, as well as a debatable Round 1 match where the winner is the favorite to also win Round 2 in Uncharted 4/Mario Kart 8!

Pokemon HGSS/Nier Automata is a tough call pre-contest, as we dont know how well remakes will play in this environment. 2Bs Character Battle showing also makes it seem like Nier will do well, though this could be a Dante/DMC case where the character is way stronger than the game. Skyrim seems like the obvious winner of this division, but depending on the ceilings of Pokemon and Nier, I wouldnt say its a total lock.

Division 4 A division where a GTA game is the top seed? You already know this is a very debatable one. The top seeds in Round 1 are the favorites, but I can see some upset potential in a few of them, especially Overwatch/Death Stranding.

P4G/RDR is definitely debatable to me, because much like with Pokemon HGSS, its hard to say how well a remake like Persona 4 Golden will do here, since I can see it having both a high ceiling and low floor. GTAV will have to get past the winner of that match, which is not a lock. Xenoblade and Fire Emblem Three Houses is the biggest and most debatable match in the bottom half of the division, and the winner there also has a shot at winning the division final against whoever makes it through the top half.

Not only that but anybody can vote, they will just keep multiple voting with a vpn program, its all over PS4 board, just check out any poll, for example Witcher 3 Vs Other game, probably these days someone who really hates Witcher 3 winning polls so they mass spam vote the other game with a vpn, its there, when game like Skyrim can go 100+ votes in under 30 minutes you know something is fishy. Similar poll was made God of War Vs BOTW and God of War was leading until magically BOTW gained a huge lead LOL. I really like all these games, but i dont like it when results can be manipulated so easily, and most people dont give a fuck.

So the real question what prevents those people from ruining the results in this contest as well? How can i trust the results?

I fail to understand what is the point of making a rally, why did you do it??? GameFaqs did make the contest to say to the whole gaming world what is their website opinion on best character or best game, yet making rally kills this exact idea, why dont we just follow what reddit and youtube says, no need for our own contest.

if it comes to me i would allow only users who are certain level, like 15 or 20, someone who have been here at least 1 month, then i would also lock IP to prevent alts from voting, then i would also show in the poll who voted for what, this way results are 95% accurate. But its hard to do and people here are not paid for their work so i understand not being motivated to make the contest more secure.

The bigger one is that Breath of the Wild is only on one platform, while The Witcher III is on several and has a Netflix series. If everyone is staying inside watching Netflix and playing whatever video games are available to them, it makes sense that The Witcher III may have an advantage over the game only on Switch currently. If it was just this site's usual demographic, Zelda wins, but I'm switching now.

I know this sounds absolutely fucking insane, but that's the world we live in now.

For the sake of full disclosure, I switch to Smash Ultimate > Odyssey in my bracket - it got harder to justify the Odyssey pick as time went on, and once I learned that GTA5 was apparently the upset pick on B8 I'm less worried about my bracket being cookie-cutter

Still think Odyssey has a great chance at pulling it off but Smash Ultimate is going to keep getting high-profile DLC in the middle of the contest and that's a pretty good X-factor

For about 15 minutes, there was a glitch on the homepage that caused BotW's match to appear in the PotD slot instead of the actual poll that is now on the homepage. As a result of this glitch, the BotW match has about 190 more votes than the other 3 matches running today. In terms of raw vote totals, it's about 120 more votes than the other 3 matches. This could be taken as a sign that the forced voting in all 4 matches (if you use the contest voting form) is actually hurting vote totals of all 4 matches running on the same day.

During the 15 minute time block from 1:00 AM to 1:15 AM EST, the overall votes for the BotW match was 57.52% registered users. For comparison, the Halo: Reach match had 58.17% registered users during that same time period. So not significantly different from the other matches that didn't appear in the PotD slot. Among the votes that had to be submitted from the PotD slot (estimated at 113 votes), registered users made up 56.64% of those votes. So the PotD slot only slightly favored anonymous users.

I don't think Hollow Knight is going to do FFXV anything there. Hollow Knight stands out today and certainly attracts more votes from someone who played neither game, but FFXV has name recognition. Wouldn't surprise me if Edith Finch was scoring better than it should due to antivoting. Nothing Final Fantasy scores blowouts anymore.
