unless it's something that can routinely stand on its own, it's a condiment.

Green beans - foodstuff
Ketchup - condiment

Sure, beans might not be awesome on their own, but eating a can of green beans is fine for a meal.

Slurping down a can of ketchup is not a thing.

Same with downing a jar of honey.

Ah, but some may argue that condiments are always created. Ketchup, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, guacamole, etc.; they are all made from various ingredients. Honey is simply honey.

Really?

I had a co-worker who was a very strict vegan; he wouldn't even eat honey.

Is that your reason?

I don't slurp down a whole jar cause I'll get diabeetus, but I'll absolutely take a spoonful or two.

I have a friend who dips his chicken fingers in honey. Asked for honey mustard once, got honey by mistake, and just rolled with it. I think if you can get it in a small packet at a fast food place, it's basically a condiment.

Though, by that logic, small packs of strawberry or grape jelly are condiments.

I would think jellies and jams are condiments.

See, I think that's reasonable. I guess it's whether or not you would commonly eat on its own? I wouldn't call peanut butter a condiment since you can just eat a spoonful of it.

They make those little honey sticks with different flavors so it's either a snack, an ingredient, or even a dipping sauce
