Many states require ID for voter registration and some require ID to vote. This is well known. The Department of Homeland Security says it puts our nation at risk if you allow peeps to pick up their drivers license. You leave the facilty with a punched out license and a temporary ID. Now if your state will accept the temporary ID, then your best bet is to replace your state ID just before the election.

What if your state will not accept temporary state ID? If you renew just before the election then you cannot vote.

Homeland Security did this years in advance.

How does this impact new grads? If you have a great job, live at home or have a trust fund, then you may be unaware of the multitude working for uber. New grads tend to live in apartments with 3 or more roommates. Post Office now restricts how many names can be on a mailbox and due the national security issues your state ID can only be put in the box if your name is on it.
Yes I just renewed my state ID. Before I found out what was going on I saw people leaving the office in shocked dismay with pieces of paper in their hands. It was quite noticeable even as distracted as one is while dealing with bureaucracy.

When I staggered out, I struggled to understand how this could happen with Pritzker as governor and Lightfoot as Mayor. Fortunately enough citizens have the same question as I for my first search to work.
