Do you have dead wifi spots you want to spend 10-15 mgsv to fix?

Mesh wifi is what you do when there is no possible way to create more access points around your home.

the situation is that i bought a house and want something better than the shitty netgear modem/router combo that i have now. i think some of the rooms have ethernet lines but i wasnt sure so i was wondering if mesh was a good option

How big is your home? Unless it's really big or has some odd interference you might be able to just get away with a good new router.

Right, so are their areas you want to spend the money to fix? A good router is cheaper and if you have multiple ethernet you can always buy a new router for your primary and stick your current router in an area with weaker coverage

pretty small, about 1600sq ft, but it's 2 floors + a basement

yea i guess id probably have to check coverage in the house + if there is actually ethernet in the rooms before i go and buy anything. i just figured mesh would be an easier + more elegant solution

I have a small mesh network in my house, as the router is on the first floor and VPN connection necessary for work moves at a snail's pace in the most distant on the second floor without another hotspot.

What I would do it get a good router before anything, and stick it in a central spot in your home. Then evaluate any dead zones, if any. If you find one, look into hooking up new APs in those zones.

Do NOT get dual band if you want to use a purely wireless system. Get triband or dualband plus hardwire.

the new house will have Fios so I can prob just stick the router anywhere that has an ethernet jack and test from there
