In 2020, I beat it in two days.

I don't know what to say. The game's not "good" in the traditional sense of the word. It's definitely appealing though.

It's odd playing the game again for the first time in 20 years. Back in the day, I couldn't get past the Snake Woman boss in level 4. Then again, I had no idea how to use items. All you have to do is throw a boomerang or two at her. This time around, I still managed to beat her the hard way before discovering that neat little trick. She's not even the hardest boss of the game. The tyrannosaurus is damn near impossible if you're not properly armed.

I'm glad I'm accustomed to Ninja Gaiden / Ghouls 'n Ghost / Konami game difficult by this point. It took about five or six hours in total to complete the game. Had I sunk days or weeks into beating it, the ending would've been even more of a kick in the head.

I enjoyed some of the randomness. Like, you get to level eight and suddenly you're a fire-breathing Russian circus strongman... with angel wings. If only he could have the wings power-up and the diving helmet power-up at the same time. It'd be the greatest upgrade in NES history.

It's weird that Data East made him a bad guy in all of his other game appearances.
