Dems were between a rock and a hard place. Not impeaching would put the them in a different sticky situation, particularly being seen as unwilling to pursue justice because of optics, which imo would have been worse.

Everyone knew he would be acquitted. Its just the fact that Congress isnt doing its Constitutional duty if they let him get away with what he did. Senate Republicans clearly care about holding power more than their oath of office. There were Senators who said he did something wrong and then voted to acquit anyways

How do I put this? In Justice League Unlimited there was a part where Superman trashed one of Luthor's projects that turned out to be benign. The fact Luthor was later up to something didn't mean Superman's moves were right at the time as it did nothing but vilify him and give more credibility to Luthor, making it harder to stop him in the long run.

The Democrats refuse to accept how their preconceived and well know bias against Trump works against them. They're trying to go "moral stand" to people that see them as jumping the gun, and now missed and made Trump stronger, and themselves not the best alternative in either event. It's hardly the only time they've lost the game because they cry "morally right" so much they forget the rules of the game they're playing and other elements of the big picture.

Long run, this will hurt more than help by November, and as for the blemish in the hotory books, that won't mean much if the partisan bickering gets in there as well. Not worth it. Next time you fire, hit the fucking target or don't take the shot in the first place.

Those. Republicans have been rolling over like good dogs for Donnie's stupid shit this whole time. The Democratic party had to show America that someone still cares about silly stuff like the law and checks and balances, regardless of how shitty and predictable right wingers are gonna be. I'm sure a lot of CE fuckfaces would love for the US to enter the election in November thinking that neither party is worth enough of a shit to stand up to fat boy, but that's just not the case.

It's clear that the right wing's strategy is to pretend he wasn't impeached and let the idiots who don't know anything just repeat and spread that message.

It was worth it. At the very least, they're showing the country they're willing to challenge Trump, even if Republicans aren't.

My stance from the beginning was that a moral victory was more important in this case, even if there was virtually no chance of removal; it's bizarre to think that my stance would change just because that entirely-foreseeable outcome finally came to pass.

I imagine the cycle will be pretty much the same as with the Mueller report: conservatives will howl like hyenas and post cringey memes for a couple days, and an overconfident Trump will waste no time stumbling headlong into another criminal / impeachable blunder, which will quickly overshadow his short-lived 'victory.'

Nobody with half a brain ever thought that he would be voted to be kicked out of the office, because that decision is usually bigger than just considering the act itself. It never matters if all the evidences are there. He's being voted not guilty of being the other party, essentially.

Theoretically the impeachment by itself should be the figurative end of his presidency. But boy is America big and mostly delusional

Yeah obviously, but it's sorta like court cases where they have to take proper procedural steps through the whole thing, otherwise the lawyer can point it out and have some crucial results thrown out. It sounds like a huge pain and a waste but the alternative is a slippery slope where we just execute whoever we don't like without a fair trial
