Wasnt there a game that said you need to hit the reset button to advance but if you ignored it you got passed it? If you hit reset it reset the game to the boot up and start menu you know what the reset button is for.

Any ROG when you lose some characters due to story reasons for a bit and are either forced to use characters youve under levelled or they leave keeping all their gear.

<spoiler>looking at you lost odyssey and having to force us to use Cooke and Mack for the living ice boss at the end of chapter 3. Even more so that they are usually crap and no one uses them so by the boss they are seriously underlevelled and theres no where to grind between the save point and the boss. If you are massively underlevelled its potentially a game breaking design choice where youll never beat it. </spoiler>

A lot of indie games on steam seem to do this. Like making you close the game or delete data and something has changed in the game once you do.

Also, impossible space is a mild, but extremely entertaining use of this.

witcher 3 during that quest where you have to find the guy that attacked dandelions girlfriend

Theres a part in the quest where you have to go to the morgue to inspect a dwarfs body. In the dialogue options you tell the coroner to check parts of the body. Head, arms, legs etc. the last option is to check his genitals, and the coroner gives you a funny look saying that its not needed at all. So Geralt is there looking stupid lmao.

In Fire Emblem Heroes, there's this subscription pass that locks away essentially 6* units in terms of stats (the highest rarity is 5*), locks away an expansion of the Summoner Support mechanic, where you can "pair up" with and marry a unit, from 1 to 3 units. Pairing up, or SSing, that, more than generally buffing your favorite unit with a boost of stats, is now a necessity to dodge specific threats in the most competitive mode, Aether Raids.

Also, they not only did they lock basic quality of life functions behind this subscription fee, like redoing a turn (in noncompetitive modes) or macros (autocycling through grinding a map and doing all the clicks to return to the map to play it in the game), but they made a set of quests available for everyone to do but you can't pick up the rewards without the pass. So when you pick up all your gifts, there will a few left hanging back and you'll always be reminded of it because the count will no longer be 0. And they made a quest called "defeat 1000 enemies", a subscription exclusive quest, that you have to see every time you do a map, which slows down the current basic autoplay feature we have.

You left out the part where theg game freezes. it still catches me off guard even when I'm expecting it.

Beating the final boss in Kid Icarus Uprising

Only for Hades to destroy the credits and reveals you only played 1/3rd of the story

Maybe not the same thing, but the RNG in various games, like spearmen killing tanks in Civ for example.

Oh Ghosts and Goblins you get to the end only to have to start from the beginning again to get the real ending, and you need a set weapon to even beat the last boss which if you dont have you are screwed so you have to die and go back and get it.
