Do you think he was being overly dramatic over the coronavirus outbreak?

An American Airlines passenger was removed from a flight in Dallas after he wore a GAS MASK over fears of the "coronavirus" causing mass panic on the flight!!

It happened on Flight 2212 as they were getting read to leave Houston when the gask man arrived as passengers grew alarmed of the unusual sight

A twitter user caught the moment who said it caused many people on the flight in a mass panic who said he sat in the back and was sitting there talking to the lady next to him when he heard some commotion and saw a guy on the plane board wearing a full blown gas mask and didnt have a filter which looked strange as people started panicking and wanted him off the plane

They wanted to know why he was wearing the mask as a flight attendant came over and asked him to remove it but he refused and security had to come to take him out

The gas mask man said he wanted to make a STATEMENT but didn't get to say it but mentioned it was because of the coronavirus.

People were worried he sneaked something on board and had the mask on for safety as it's not known if him wearing the mask was a crime

A spokesperson said the passenger was rebooked and flew WITHOUT the mask on next evening

Do you think wearing a gas mask is overly dramatic on the coronavirus?

Dude. Let the man be. The general public is gross enough to constantly not flush a toilet. why are you ganging up on 1 guy trying to live life safely? This is why the government had to enforce seatbelts on you. Youre over here driving 60 mph with no lights on complaining about some guy in a mask worrying you you sick fuck.

While he was a little over dramatic, he probably was scared of the virus. Although, I think it's spread through physical contact. But even if it is, he might not have known. Also, if he snuck something on the plane, it's possible he might not need to be on the plane for it to kill everyone...

Pretty sure a gas mask wouldn't even protect him, those thing are for chemicals.

Depends what you attach to it. You can get N95 filters (the recommended option for this sort of infection control) for respirators, as well as cartridges that contain N95 filters in addition to whatever chemical ones they have.

You obviously know your gas masks better than I do.

That said, I just double-checked the colour coding for cartridges (https://www.osha.gov/dts/shib/respiratory_protection_bulletin_2011.html), and black ones (like he seems to have) are just for organic vapours. N95 ones are teal. What he's wearing is useless for the intended purpose (which I'd attribute to ignorance before suggesting that he was actually wearing it for some nefarious purpose).

This. You'll get looks just wearing a typical germ mask at the airport. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, yet it's more socially acceptable to walk around wearing sunglasses. idgi

I can appreciate the precaution but a gas mask is overkill. He could've just worn an N95 respirator. They're cheaper, easier to put on and much less likely to cause a panic attack among others.

If some dude is wearing or doing something literally no one else in public wears or does, that's considered abnormal behavior. Abnormal behavior causes confusion and sometimes concern. This guy not only wore something people abnormal, but he didn't give a reason why he was wearing something abnormal.

The only thing passengers and crew did on this plane was ask the guy why he had it on. All he had to do was say "I'm worried about the coronavirus". But he didn't. So he got booted off.

Fair, next.

It says that he mentioned it was because of the coronavirus... so they might have known. The reason he got removed doesnt sound like it was because of not telling them why he was wearing, but because he was wearing it and wouldnt remove it...

Also, does the mask matter, anyway? If he wanted to do something to the plane, he could most likely do it whether he wore the mask or not. So does it really matter?

I can understand to some extent. Whether it's the corona virus or even people wearing too much perfume, cologne, w/e, you can be asked to explain yourself and it should be fine so long as you do, but it's also possible, and people aren't unreasonable to jump to such a conclusion, that you're some kind of mentally unhinged nut job planning on gassing the plane, and the mask is to protect you from the agent you plan on unleashing.

It warrants concern and an explanation, but not unconditional refusal of service.
