Even more so than Ghosts 'n Goblins.

There are so many cheap deaths and the game actually adapts to a winning streak on your end by adding new flying enemies that weren't there previously or by denying you power-ups which had been present before.

It took an entire week to beat this game when I feel like I should have beaten it on Day 3. The final boss I beat by the skin of my teeth. It was on my last bar of health of my last life. And I'd have connected with a piranha he conjured up were it not for the fact that he died first and the game immediately stopped registering offense against me.

Strider is so difficult, Ivan Drago is a miniboss on the first level.

Also, I had no idea until this morning that Strider was an adaptation of a manga. I'm surprised they didn't change the name in the US like they did with virtually every other anime based property -- like that Dragon Ball game which replaced Goku with a Chuck Norris lookalike.

That's how I found out Strider was a licensed game. Someone made a video about Strider on NES and someone in the comments section mentioned that it was closer to the original manga in story than what the arcade/Genesis game was.
