it's like noop_noop said the other day. the virus is ravaging poor communities because they're uneducated in how to prevent the spread. i blame their shit government for not doing more to educate these people. instead they're shutting down towns and starving them out, basically, ok?

This. Every 10 years or so some scary new virus originates in China, and it's entirely because their government doesn't do more to prevent these things. China is very reactive.

I blame the millions of Chinese who enable and support the government.

There isn't a clear divide between population and government like most seem to want to believe. But obviously there are millions, if not a billion or more, innocent chinese people being trod upon. But the amount of Chinese people sincerely propping up the government for their own benefit is not insignificant.

Citizens in democratic countries bear far more responsibility for the policies of their own government -- either because they chose to put that government into power, or because they fail to challenge government wrongdoing even when they're free to do so at no personal cost.

There's a difference between dissent and lack of support. Many Chinese people actively approve of things like the concentration camps and Hong Kong crackdowns (just to name a few extreme examples) because they benefit from the suppression of dissent and diversity in communist China, or just enjoy living in a society where their own culture is not challenged.

China isn't a giant prison system like North Korea is, that shit tends to be isolated to specific events and locations. It's a mostly developed country. And at least among the wealthy Chinese, many of whom are the ones travelling to the west for school and vacation, the communist party enjoys overwhelming support. Infantilizing the Chinese community and acting like they're helpless is naive and condescending.

Wet markets (like the one this virus supposedly comes from) are a huge thing in China. Most major viruses/plagues can always traced back to one or something similar.
Reason you dont hear about these things coming from Europe or NA in modern times is cause we abolished this medieval market practice.

Most of the original cases had a common source at such a market.

I've seen a theory that it came from eating raw bat which was sold there, but I don't think that's proven.

turned out that market was selling wolf and koala meat along with who the hell knows what else so there is no telling
