I deleted two of them off of my phone a couple of weeks ago, and I'm ashamed to say it's still bothering me. One was story based, and I'd seen all the story I wanted, the rest was just grinding I didn't want. The other wasn't fun to play, but it had become a comforting habit. I was nearly out of free resources and was about to start having to drop money. Worse, the game seemed to be on its last legs and most of the guilds had members that hadn't logged in for weeks or months. It was time to let them go.

I've taken to playing solo games on my phone when I need to play something casually, but the void is not filled. This might not make any sense given how little social interaction is involved in gatcha games, but I feel a lot lonelier now than I did before.

Any advice? At the very least, I hope what I'm going through isn't strange.

I've always viewed games like that to be the step towards recognizing gaming as an addiction rather than a hobby. If I were you, I'd just kick them and try not to game 24/7 from all available devices as you go about your day. Tone it down, and engage with the world around you or even just your own thoughts.

I used to be that guy who would sit at his computer all day, then go to work and play my DS on my corporate breaks, then when I got home would spark up and play more. By the time I got a good enough phone for it, games were on there too. Then I just had to hard-stop due to life and it made me recognize that if I just kept it on one or two platforms, and only for games that had substance and not grind or levers to pull, I had a better time of it.

In a lot of places in Europe and Asia, a comma is the equivalent of what we use a decimal point for in mathematical notation. So probably closer to 5000.

Which is still crazy.

I've never understood the appeal of Gacha games.

I mean, there's been 2 that are somewhat interesting, one is that Raid: Shadow Legends game. It looks great and has tons of content but you won't get anywhere unless you spend thousands of dollars. Hundreds of different heroes or whatever, I tried to play it on PC and the damn installer never did anything so I gave up.

The other one was FFBE. Final Fantasy characters and that whole "have a friend lend you his UBER character to pwn weekly events" thing was great for those that didn't have a lot of free time to invest in the game. It allowed you to actually participate in endgame content without having to over-grind for the most part. This was couple years ago though, dunno the current state of the game.

But the genre as a whole is extremely basic and unfun. There's hardly any strategy to any of those games, it's just throw your money and watch shit happen.

It's weird.

there's quite a few nsfw android games (not much for ios tho) that I've been playing to replace the gacha void. plenty are free and not pay-to-win, usually downloadable on the creator's patreon. you can find more info on reddit.

and for sfw alternatives, there's always emulation, call of duty mobile, pubg, final fantasy ports, shattered pixel dungeon (rogue-lite).

Thank you for the candid response. Honestly, that's what I'm leaning towards doing.

I've known guys who spent twice as much, on multiple games. You can see why microtransaction games are being made.
