Like if a place closes at 10 but they don't lock up until 1030 do they get paid for that?

Yes. But it's unanticipated overtime if it happens too long or too often

I used to work in a restaurant, few things would piss you off more than someone coming in right as close. It just sucks. We want a steady rush then totally die so we can do our cleaning.

Depends on if it inconveniences my life.

Tried to put in a to go order at a place once and they told me they weren't taking anymore to go orders and that I had to come in. So I drove there and they were closed 30 minutes early. Haven't been back since.

A lot of entitled food service workers in this topic. You're literally the most replaceable members of the workforce.

When I worked nights at the library, we had to start closing so some people would get the hint. Literally turned the lights off on a few of them and they kept talking.

unacceptable. if they advertised to close at 20.00, then i expect them to close at 20.00, not 19.45
however, in my place restaurants usually has "last order" time which is usually 30 minutes before closing time.

My favorite restaurant has a sign that says "kitchen closes 1 hour before doors" and I don't know why more places just do that.

If you post it somewhere like this I have no problem, but if you say you are open until x you should be open until x imo. Barring emergency situations of course.

I once went to Churches chicken at around 8pm as it said they closed at midnight. They told me sorry we are closed for today. So I asked but your sign says you are open til 12am? Yeah but we wanted to close early tonight was the response they gave. So I asked are you out of chicken? No we just want to go home early.

You're welcome to order at 9:59pm if you want.

However, the restaurant closes at 10pm, so if they haven't gotten you your meal after 1 minute, come back in the morning when they open again for them to finish making it and hand it to you.

I was turned back at a five guys 10 minutes before close. It wasn't a huge deal but... come on, it's a burger place.

I never understood this as an accepted thing in general, even when I worked at a deli. Now if you're gonna come in to buy a phone 5 minutes before a store closes that's different. I would understand being kicked out while you're eating at the store but not getting refused service for fast food.

Sometimes you don't know when a restaurant closes. 9pm? 10? 11? Let's go in and see. People fume at the most trifling of offenses I swear.

This, I used to work at a fast food place that would actually close lobby when the store closed and you have no idea how annoying it is trying to mop the floor as random fellow #1 and his ragtag group of friends walk around the store as your mopping.

It's even worse when you hear them say that they're gonna eat in.

unless you work third shift and thats the option you have before having to work at 12.

but thats a job, something the lot of you dont know much about.

To be honest, it makes sense for them to say kitchen is closed at X hour. The customer shouldn't have to anticipate your needs. I shouldn't have to think, ok they close at 9, its 825 now.... can I still grab something? That being said I typically try to avoid going anywhere too close to closing.
