I guess they did all they really could do and it just got stale like anything else. Plus, rock music is on life support if not dead mainstream wise so there's that.

Oversaturation, basically. People got tired of buying new games/guitars. I was an avid customer and bought every game up to and including Metallica, but after that, I felt I had enough. I didn't need more.

Because Rock Band

Both of those. Once Harmonix moved on to make Rock Band, Guitar Hero became an inferior product. Then the corporation decided to release a million versions of the same game & wore people out.

Too much too fast

If they had spaced it out to once a year or maybe a main title once a year and a side/band title in the middle of the yearly release then it could've stuck around

But they also had other issues, like the fact the games w/ guitars and band sets took up valuable floor space in retail outlets. So stores mightve eventually started to quit carry them at least in anything more than one or two at a time, regardless it the standalone games sold well or not.

Also by 2011 most people who were interested already bought in and were probably as good as they were going to get at the games.

There's still a fairly decent sized community of people on youtube and twitch that follow Guitar Hero and Rock Band though most channels play Clone Hero now(same exact concept, just in PC).

For a lot of the players during that time period, they simply grew up as a large amount of the demographic were young and the concept of Guitar Hero and Rock Band were simply fads to most adults. The people that stuck around though are still active in the Clone Hero community.

It does make me bitter that I paid for all those games, peripherals, DLC, & now you can virtually do it for free 10 years later with Clone Hero. With unlimited song availability.

For me, the plastic just wasn't up to the task. I put my guitars through some abuse on Expert, they all starting acting finicky eventually and I got tired of buying new (ostensibly better) ones, only to have those wear out too.

They released something like 12 games in one year and everyone collectively say "okay, we're done here".

EDIT: However, the series gets credit for eventually spawning Rocksmith on PC which can actually be used to teach someone real guitar.

Most of mine turned to trash, except the X360 Xplorer controller for GH2. The whammy bar spring popped off years ago, but the strum and all the buttons still work great. Over ten years later, I'm still using it for clone hero.

I think peripheral games in general are way less popular than they used to be.

As others have said, they made way too many games in way to short of a time. However, nowadays Clone Hero is pretty damn popular within the music rhythm game niche.

Guitar Hero sucked after 2

And I dunno, just grew out of Rock Band. Still play it at a friends house occasionally but since I sold my Xbox One I have no way to play it anymor.

They drove it into the ground. Wayyy too many games

My roommates and I still load up the rock band from time to time however. I got really good at expert guitar and drums and it's a lot of fun for all of us
