Flu=30-50 million infectons a year in US alone and few 10's of thousand dead.
Corona=6000 infections 133 deaths, has nearly double the R0 value of flu and 25 times the mortality rate.

No body is saying panic, just be aware this could go pandemic.

A lot more people have gotten the regular flu. A better comparison is fatality rate but idk what those numbers look like at all.

I'm less scared of the actual virus and more scared of the people. Grocery stores are beginning to run low on supplies because everyone is grabbing what they can. Kind of like before a hurricane except it's the whole country. Pharmacies are being overwhelmed as well.

It's times like these that the second amendment is so important.

It's kind of like planes vs. cars. Yes, cars are technically more dangerous, but I imagine where not every bad car crash ends in death, pretty much every bad plane crash ends in multiple.

The R0 of the current flu isn't twice lower than the corona virus. The corona virus is believed to be 2.5-3.5 last I checked. The current strain of influenza is h1n1. Which originally was believed to have an R0 rating of 1.9 -2.1. And the current h1n1 strain is more infectious than the previous ones. No R0 data on it yet.

Flu R0 value is between 1.4 an 1.6, corona is about on par with the common cold between 2-3.

I don't think people like you relies just how dangerous this virus is.

Contagious while Asyptermatic for up to 14 day.
Highly infectious
Stays alive and active on surfaces for up to 5 days
At least partly airborne
One in five effected need emergency treatment.

Add onto that over 5 million people left the area while the virus was active and before it was quarantined, all that adds up to a fast spreading virus thats going to be near impossible to contain and is reasonably lethal.

Do you want to know how bad it could get, at it's current growth rate we could see infections numbering in the millions by late February.

It didn't kill me last year so nyuuh

higher contagion rate and incubation period allows it to be spread faster and easier without people knowing. the virus itself is not incredibly deadly, but just because its so contagious means it can spread to more people which increases the likelihood of deaths.

paranoia over the Chinese basically is the main driver of this freakout.
