His net worth is $25 million. That would be like if you only donated 32 cents.

How much can you buy with 32 cents? How much can you buy with $160k? Maybe instead of being too broke to contribute anything of worth you should find ways to grow your net worth so you can contribute more.

That net worth is way off first of all, rogans worth 9 figures, he gets 100k each commentary job, does theatre/arena shows, makes 5 figures a podcast, owns onnit

But this is just an overall stupid take, clearly the charity is grateful

You should alert the Australian authorities and disaster workers that the money is less that 1% of his net worth so they can return it. Surely .32% of your worth will go much further.

Do you think they give .32% of a fuck what proportion of the donor's net worth the donation represents or do you think they care about the actual money coming in for aide?

Peoples relationship with money is weird. Like, its not money thats going to help Australia. They just need the services required to fight back the fires and rescue people and animals.

Why is it dependent on rich people donating small percentages of their net worth that they get these services, instead of us as a world collectively deciding they should have them?

Though as a celebrity Rogan might also get others to donate, so there's added value there.

I'm not really understanding what your point is though. Money doesn't necessarily have a magic power, but it does allow things to happen. Things, especially on such a huge scale, can't simply be free. There is a cost to everything

This is like if you had $4000 in savings and donated $13. How is this anything to complain about? Joe Rogan did a great thing here in my book.

What I am disgusted with is someone like Jeff Bezos donating $680k to combat the wildfires when he could just as easily pay for the entire cost. I mean dear god, $680k for him is 0.00068% of his wealth. If we used the same metrics as before that would be like donating $0.03 on a $4000 savings. Thats fucking pathetic.

The money doesn't spend any differently than if it was a higher percentage of total wealth. Do you think Australians care or do you think they see $680k put toward their relief efforts?

It is absolutely not the same as you donating 3 cents of your 4k savings because 3 cents cost them more to accept than decline and 680k actually makes a difference.

the issue is that people frequently frame donations like this as though the billionaire is being generous when that is not actually the case. billionaires essentially gained their wealth by stealing it from their employees and the general public, and by not paying their taxes (which charitable donations like this help them to do)

in addition, this is just one case of charitable donations. we don't always know that money donated to "charity" is always going to a good cause. many wealthy people can afford to create their own organization and get tax breaks from funding it. that's how we get The Heritage Foundation and other similar organizations.

A percentage comparison is bad.

You can literally find 32 cents discarded on the street. 160k, you cannot.

You should not he comparing based on his savings to date but based on how fast he can make back what he donated.

This is all so full of shit. They dont steal their wealth. And they pay more in personal taxes than you and multiple generations of your family will ever even make. Do you voluntarily donate more in taxes then the minimum required? Thought not.

They gained their wealth through voluntary tary transactions made in exchange for whatever product or service they provide. And people choose to be a part of their companies. Everything is voluntary.

yes they do. from their employees who earned it. that's literally how they make money.

corrections:
-they themselves do not provide the product or service. their employees do.
-they gain their wealth by underpaying the employees. if they paid their employees the actual value of their labour, they would not make any money themselves.

And people choose to be a part of their companies. Everything is voluntary.
it isn't voluntary if the only other choice is "starve to death"

You think the choice is work at Amazon or starve to death? I dont work at Amazon, I'm not starving. And they literally don't steal it. A company they created, one that would not exist, along with its hundreds of thousands of jobs, without them creating it.

Warehouse workers enter employment voluntarily. They execute processes created by other people and are cogs in a machine they did nothing to create and do not innovate.

Are you under the impression they dont know their wage when they accept a job?
