Started in 2016, we were hoping to have it done by 2018 or 2019, and it'll finally be done in early 2020. You know...hopefully.

It really had split the country. Not just the vote itself, which was painful enough, but the sheer amount of problems Britain has encountered since. All the Brexiteers who got jerked around by how long and difficult the process was; all the remainers who desperately tried to use various legal, moral and media-based means to stop it from happening, or at least slow it down for longer than they did; all the different ecomonic predictions by various experts; the problems with the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland; the various fighting between different "types" of Brexiteers in Parliament; two general elections that were perhaps unnecessary; Scotland hating Brexit, and wanting a second referendum on Scottish independence. It's caused many problems. The bad thing was how long and drawn-out the process was, which gave the two sides plenty of time to argue and stir up trouble.

There have been other problems, of course. Businesses have been jerked around a lot, doing stockpiling prior to multiple dates we were "meant" to leave the European Union, then leaving being postponed. Just prior to the vote, the MP, Jo Cox, was shot and killed by a staunch Brexiteer. There have been various problems with shifts in the political landscape (although it depends on your perspective)...the Conversative Party (boo) have been considerably strengenthed, the Lib Dems have been damaged very badly, and so on. Nigel Farrage is a happy man - for the most part.

I must admit, as a remainer, I'm sad we're leaving, but I mostly just want to get it done. This process has been beyond the pail.

Thoughts on all this? Brits have anything to say? What about Americans?

It's pretty funny how media coverage of 'Brexit' has dropped off a cliff. Really makes you wonder how much attn towards it was media driven

Part of me feels that way, but that means everyone else will get screwed as well. It would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Which is bad.

It won't be finished at all. We'll still have to negotiate all the long-term trade deals.

A united Europe is one of the only things that can stand up to Russia and get in the way of the economies of former soviet republics like Ukraine to not become completely dependent on Russia.

Isn't Germany and many other European nations completely reliant on Russian oil right now?

The whole "We need to stay united against Russia!" thing feels kind of off after that.

a hard brexit is still possible and could happen until the end of 2020.

The Brexit is far from finished in 3 days time. There will be a lot of dealings between friday and the end of 2020.

how the hell can you be so badly informed about this as a person from there?

In a technical and legal sense, Brexit will end in 3 days. The UK will be out of the European Union. This will be followed by roughly 10 months of further negotiations, but that isn't Brexit - it's just negotiations.

I hope that's reasonably clear. I won't deny, though, there's still work to be done by Bojo and his government.

Good job for the UK then that the EU is run, by and large, by decent, rational and objective technocrats and not bitter and spiteful people like you two.

Whether you like it or not, it's happening, and the best thing everyone can do is try and make it work.

If the UK leaves the customs union, it would be an economic catastrophe for both sides. Imaging real custom controls and customs paperwork for imports and exports at the English channel? You would have hundreds of kilometers of backed up traffic. About 10,000 Trucks pass through there every day at the moment with minimal waiting times at the moment.

The UK will lose the NHS within a decade. This is a way for corporations to gobble up huge chunks of wealth using their toady Boris.

You are about to be America in the worst way.

Well, I hope for the sake of the people who voted to stay that there's a smooth transition and limited economic impact. I don't think either of those things will happen though, unfortunately.
