I hate that someone made me nostalgic for Bush.

Not the war he dragged us in, that was an abomination. Nor the recession he caused, that's still fucking me to this day.

But man when Bush said some stupid shit, that was great. Everyone agrees that it was stupid too. You didn't have scores of people intentionally dumbing themselves down to believe he was profound. Or that he didn't really mean that. Or that he was just trolling. Or that he meant it but it's not a big deal. Or that he meant it and it's a big deal but everyone else does it.

That is a good point. When Bush said stupid things we all just laughed about it and moved on. You didn't have legions of hardcore Bush supporters trying to explain "what he actually meant" or insisting that he was a gift from God and everyone else is socialists

The reason is because his supporters while misguided were at least trying to do what's best for the country in their opinions.

Trump and his supporters just do shit out of spite, hatred and self preservation. They are literally the lowest of the low in terms of reasoning behind what they do

Obama was rarely comically mocked/attacked for his behaviors. A lot of Obama criticism was politically based/skin deep.

Yeah, in retrospect George W wasn't so bad. Amusing in a "monkey driving a car" kind of way, but not outright insane.
