Apparently if visibility becomes low enough, pilots lose all sense of what's up, what's down, whether they are turning or going straight. Keep in mind helicopters are more versatile than planes too. So they're more likely to be used in risky scenarios. Something like Kobe really shouldn't happen but a famous soccer player died not too long ago from a private plane crash as well.
