This game looks fucking insane. HDR on (not in the shots below ofc), 1440P, MSAA x2, high-ultra settings across the board...not even full ultra, 4k or 60 fps...this game blows my mind.

Heck I don't think next-gen can run RDR2 in 4K, ultra @ 60 fps. No way.

I started playing it last night on PC (had beaten it on PS4 already). Was blown away by how good it looks.

I made the big jump from my old 970 gtx to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and this was one of the first games I've tried out. It's a really pretty game and going to saint denis at night is gorgeous.

I'm hoping to upgrade to an RTX 3070 and AMD Ryzen 3700x or something this year. I already have a good rig, but I'm not satisfied with the lack of 60 fps for 4K and 1440p.

My plan is similar. I have a 1080 Ti and plan on upgrading to an RTX 3070 or 3080 when they come out. Will also likely upgrade my i7 7700k at the same time.

I won't be changing to 4k though. I am at 1440p, I just want a consistent 144fps on ultra settings with most games.

If i can run 1440p, ultra @ 60 fps for most games in the next generation, that's going to be a worthwhile purchase. I'd love 4K, but as long as games keep being more performance hungry, the 4K target will be constantly difficult to achieve at 60 fps+ and ultra.

I play mostly first person shooters and the difference between 60 FPS and 144 FPS is ridiculous. I play Battlefield V mostly right now and I shoot for at least a consistent 100 FPS. When it does happen to dip down to around 60 it gets really noticeable. Games like RDR2, Cyberpunk, etc I am fine with 60 FPS on ultra but not for online shooters.

Been playing it on pc as well. I get between 70 and 80 FPS consistently at 3440 x 1440. 2080ti and i99900ks. Game is absolutely gorgeous. I cant wait to see what they do with GTA.

How much would it cost approximately to build a PC that can max this game out? I never got into PC gaming.

Depends if you want 1080p, 1440p, or 4k. If you are happy with 60 FPS or you want 144fps.

Could probably build something for around $1200 that will do 1080p @60 FPS with most settings on ultra.

I hate how HDR is something you can never convey unless someone is standing right there with you because there's a very high chance that they're not looking at your screenshot on an HDR-capable display (or if you even used something HDR-capable to capture the image in the first place).

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Max it? Probably $1200 unless you're talking about playing the game at 4K.

There kind of is a way as far as colors go. You have to upload .EXR files on something like Google drive I presume and then open it on Photoshop or GIMP.

Not convenient at all.

The Series X is aiming for 8K, 120 FPS, and a mix of both depending on the game. I'm sure it would be just fine lol

Haha not going to fucking happen. 8k @ 120fps at anything above low settings with even the most powerful of graphics cards is damn hard to do and you think a console will be able to do it? Fucking lol...

Of course it wont. And I hate that they are going with the whole no load times and especially Xbox saying 8K 120fps. Absolute bullshit. Especially the zero load times when we know for a fact that was also said about the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Which is why I said they'd be going for a mixture of both, primarily 4K 60 FPS. 120 FPS will be around for certain games but ooh boy that resolution isn't gonna be high lol, relax.

PS3 games might be able to do 8K. 120 fps for indies a few years old.

My point in the op was an RTX 2080 Ti can't run RDR2 at maxed settings, 60 fps displayed in 4K. The PS5 and the XBXSX both utilize a GPU with an equivalent power of an RTX 2070S, so they're going to be underpowered to begin with.

Okay, maybe RDR2 will not have ideal graphics settings after all. There's still plenty of other games that can fall within the 4K/60FPS territory. Hell, the One X can do a few just fine already. Not checkerboarded 4K like the PS4 Pro either.

Games are most certainly not aiming for 8k c'mon man. At most you'll be able to play movies in that resolution.

All I'm saying is that the potential is there if they want to. Most games will be 4K/60 and that's perfectly fine to most including me. Don't let the fucking Switch dictate console power terms lol

Most games being 4k/60fps is not a guarantee either. This gen didn't even manage 1080p/60fps. The enhanced consoles also rarely went for 60fps and went for tricks like checkerboard and variable resolutions to hit their targets.

Microsoft exclusives can probably handle 4k/60fps fine at first since the games are gonna be on the OG Xbox One as well. But 4k/30fps is probably the safer bet for most games once they're past crossgen titles. Especially if they're going to use ray tracing.

You bring up Switch but Nintendo can manage 1080p/60fps for a lot of their games despite it being weaker hardware. 60fps just isn't a priority for most console developed games.
