Do you think subway platforms are dangerous to walk on?

23 y/o Visaya Hoffie, an australian artist who was visiting a friend from Brisane and was studying in New York City has lost BOTH her legs after a HORRIFIC accident where she accidentally FELL onto the train tracks where her LEGS were RUN OVER by SEVEN TRAIN CARRIAGES!!

It happened at 14th street station at 4am on January 11 as the 23 was unconscious on the tracks for 20 minutes before her life was saved by her bright pink top

She avoided being struck again by a SECOND oncoming train when the train driver caught sight of her bright clothing and immediately slammed on the brakes as the second train would have killed her..

She suffered multiple head wounds, a C2 vertebral fracture, a sheared vertebral atery, a skull depression and cuts and wounds as well as both her lower legs amputated

Despite all this she doesn't show any evidence of any brain damage and is off life support

Her mother, pat is at her bedside in New York who said it's a difficult moment for her daughter right now and are at the best possible medical home as they put their heads together on what to do from here

Police said it was a miracle she survived as they asked for prayers on her recovery.

Her mother shared a picture of her daughter awake from a NYC hospital bed and is constantly being monitored every half hour

Her work was showcased at the College of Fine Arts in 2016 and is a visual artist back in Australia

She probably fell because she was too busy taking pictures of herself to realize where she was walking.

Why don't they just like put railing up everywhere except where the train car doors are?

Doesn't Japan do something like this? I really surprised safety measures such as this haven't been implemented ubiquitously.

No. At least not in Tokyo or Sapporo.

Lived in Tokyo for 3 years. Some places definitely have glass dividers with automatic doors synced with the trains doors (which are the safest option) and I think there are metal railings some places, but its very much not universal.

this. few get to live the tale and speak about it.
can agree with subway platform's being dangerous you have to pay attention at all times.

i would probably fall off one if i was playing something like pokemon go and wasn't paying attention (which is why they state warnings to pay attention etc.)

Fair enough . Where did you live? I was Shimokitazawa, then Koto. I was there about 3 years too.

Fussa. Not really in Tokyo proper, but its part of the subway map so I count it, and I traveled around Tokyo pretty constantly while I was there. Sounds like you lived near downtown Tokyo though, so I wonder why I saw the glass barriers but you didnt. Mustve been nice either way.
