Generally malls are run down from what they used to be and a symbol of an era gone by.

When you to one that you used to go to you remember the old stores and how it used to be

Also they still gave great design elements (fountains, neon signs, etc.)

There's one mall in my city that's still like it was in the 90s. All the stores are open and it's always busy as fuck.

Then there's one that has maybe 8 stores left and it's fucking spooky. There's literally flickering lights and shit and one whole side of the mall is blocked off by a big two piece wall (like giant barn doors) and you can peek through the crack and see the old food court on the other side. And the escalators to the upper level are blocked, though you could easily climb around the blocks and walk up them.

I'd love to just walk through the entirety of the mall some time.

Yep. My favorite mall used to have 3 dozen shops open, a great atmosphere, and badass arcade. Now its 1/10 of what it used to be.

I didn't go to mine last year, I used to walk with someone but I got tired of salespeople outside their stores wanting to give my friend something (never me).

Puerto Rico still has huge, constantly packed malls. Lots of oversized fountains, sculptures, and elevators surrounded by latticed window panes. Not enough neon or fake flora for the truly ancient experience, but it's close, and it reminds me of how much I hated actually going to the mall.

Weirdly enough, the one and only time I posted on 4chan was when I somehow managed to stumble across a topic about the area the above mall and another smaller mall right down the street was located in. Whenever I visit home I stop by that mall even though it has changed entirely, but they had a kickass general game and collectable store there where I used to buy my Pokemon, DBZ, and Yugioh cards and all kinds of nerd shit. Couldn't remember the name of the store because they shut down around 2000, but other people in that thread knew what I was talking about even by vaguely describing it. That's probably the one fond memory I have from interacting with complete strangers online, and then right after that I saw some gore and other weird shit.

Two of the malls here tend to still be pretty active, but one of them is so dead that I don't know how it stays up and running

For the most part malls here are doing fine. The only one that is dying was fine until they did a renovation and quadrupled rent.

Malls are still big business up in Canada. Online shopping isnt as commonplace here because of the exchange, and some sites dont even ship here period.

The malls in my immediate vicinity have all fallen apart, but there's one about 20 miles up the highway from here that's thriving beautifully.
