I'd vote for pistol if they were consistently good in games but they're always in a tricky place, since the RL advantages of a pistol (size, concealment, easy handling) are hard to model in a game.

I like it when games don't care about being too realistic with them and just let you be a badass gunslinger. Always feels great to be popping 6 heads with a 6 shooter.

Pistols were always the most satisfying for me. Quality, not quantity.

In non-cover shooters where the shotgun is satisfying to use, the shotgun. Otherwise, pistol all the way.

I like powerful, high recoil pistols, burst pistol and rifles, and single shot rifles. Also snipers I guess.

Rifle covers the most range and most situations. Give me the CV, and it doesn't matter how close or far you are, you're taking two to the head and I'm hearing that M-M-M-MONSTER KILL.

This sort of thing comes into play in Hitman; most rifles and shotguns are too big to carry out in the open unless you have a guard disguise.
