I avoided going to the hospital after a motorcycle accident because I didn't have insurance. I had a bad concussion and some road rash and would have gone if it wouldn't have cost be thousands.

No, but I've never needed to take an ambulance. It would probably enter my mind though if I did have to take one

Not ambulance but definitely hospital stay. Friend didn't have insurance and went to hospital and his bill ended up being 20,000. I don't want to deal with that type of bill.

Yes.

Was in a car crash(minor). Opted not to get myself checked out because I felt well enough, and I couldn't afford to pay those insane hospital bill prices.

No because my country doesn't have a disgustingly inhumane health care service.

You know what's worse? Bullshit calls at 2am for a toothache where family members with cars are there.

Good job waking me up for nonsense and paying an extra $1000 for an ambulance ride just go to to triage and wait at the hospital anyway. Happens all the time and legit had this call take me away from a gunshot wound that happened 10 minutes after dispatch smh. So that guy had his care delayed cuz the next ambulance was further away

/rant >_>

While a gunshot wound is certainly worse, a toothache is a unique level of suffering that I don't blame anyone for wanting to end.

I've avoided it once... I could afford it, but I still didn't want to pay for it.

Years ago, I woke up one morning unable to breathe anything but very shallow breaths without pain in my chest. I laid in bed for what felt like 20 minutes trying to slowly work through it. It was trying so hard not to panic. I had no idea what was wrong and this had never happened to me before.

I started slowly taking slightly deeper breaths little by little until I could breathe sufficiently... I still felt like I couldn't take a really deep breath at all. I drove myself to the hospital.

When I parked in the parking lot, I started walking to the emergency room. I was running out of breath just walking at a decent pace. The lady at the front desk told me to wait in the lobby after taking my pulse and blood pressure and stuff. After about a minute, I guess after she looked at my readings, she had them put me in a room right away.

They kept me overnight for monitoring. I felt like the whole time I was manually breathing deeply out of a morbid fear of not being able to breathe at all if I didn't. Hard to sleep like that.

They never figured out what was wrong, so they just sent me home the next day because I felt OK.

The bill for that was about $20,000. Fortunately I had health insurance and only had to pay about $150.

No, once you initiate patient contact, you have to stay with them no matter what unless ordered otherwise. So that GSW patient was shit out of luck >_>

Anyway, moral of the story is if you got something minimal, just have someone drive you to the hospital
