Wow, what class should I be? Looks and reads them all over. Well, I think I'll be lame and play as a Fighter. There is Subclasses, too! Nice, now I have to see all the subclasses before I pick

Yeah, start with Fighter.

Good to hear you got the screen issue fixed.

Ranged weapons are your best friend in 1.

I was looking at Kensai, lol [Thought about Blade as well]

Is that Stat roll set to what class you picked? I know I can mid/max them, but I don't have a clue what this Class would even need to be good. So what I'm asking is if it gives a good spread based on the class you picked or is that starting stats always the same? Like I picked Kensai, yet CHA is my best stat. What is this, 5e were magic works a lot with CHA or something? Do I want Strength or Dex? Are there Dex-based weapons? I'm sure daggers and bows are [Darts and ninja stars and shit as well]

The starting stats are random. But you can reroll. I think you want DeX and strength as a kensai maybe

Reroll over and over until you get ridiculous stats. Make sure you get Minsc!

People will recommend pure fighter for your first build, but that's boring.

Be a fighter/mage for offense or fighter/cleric for defense so you can have more things to play around with.

If you dont mind being a gnome, you can be fighter/illusionist, which I've heard is very fun.

For your proficiency skills, I believe you want to prioritize warhammer and flail.

Also you want your strength to be 18/00 or as close to 00 as you can get (00 = 100, so 99 is very good, 01 is very bad).

Will the game left me know before I accidentally steal something?

How often should I be buying beer?

Will items wear down? Should I buy more than 1 Bastard Sword, for example

You have to go out of your way to steal stuff, pretty sure.

Beer isn't really necessary for anything other than rumors and those are fluff.

Only advice I have is that Imoen has a really high intelligence stat and makes one of the best mages in the game if you decide to dual class her.

Also... golden pantaloons XD

Are you carrying this over into the next game? There's some serious mechanical considerations to take into account if so. There IS a "best" build, as in most efficient killing machine, for BG2 EE. Aside from that there's a few things you might want to do/might want to avoid doing if you're carrying over.

I started this earlier in the month but I kept dying. I made a swashbuckler and I've got a party of 6 but it feels like everyone sucks or it's hard to know where to go. I went off the story path and headed for some mining town in the south but got killed by skeletons, backtracked to follow the story but I don't know if I should follow it or explore some more.

I've played a lot more than I ever did as a kid

If you're not worried about being so OP you can one shot the final boss then I won't go into that but two things for sure:

At some point someone will give you a pair of golden pantaloons. Memes aside, carry them with you to the second game. You can do something very cool with them there if you collect the full set of metallic pantaloons.

In BG1 killing Drizzt Do'Urden is a difficult but rewarding challenge. He drops some of the best items in the game, namely two Scimtars +3 both with really nice special abilities. HOWEVER if you do so, he and his friends will curbstomp the fuck out of you in BG2. You theoretically can beat them (I did) but you have to powergame pretty hard to pull it off and the rewards are not nearly as good.EDIT: It should be noted you're not supposed to be able to kill him at all in BG1. He's only hostile if you attack him and he's strong enough to curbstomp your entire party effortlessly. You can do some cheese to kill him pretty easily but it is by no means supposed to be a winnable fight normally

  • Bastard said he would teach me how to use other party members, but didn't tell me shit. Just dropped me in with a bunch of new people and we're fighting illusions
  • I'm having a hard time see which buildings I can go in
  • Is there a way to speed up the screen scroll? I would look, but I'm being attacked, lol

All the stuff I can interact with is Green. That isn't the issue. Like, um, how to describe it. When the house is at the South end of town, you can only see the back of it. You can't see the front door, you can only tell you can go in there when you hover over it and see the icon change. It's not big deal

BTW, what's up with this -

I have to have more than 4 item slots I can store, right? I'm not even close to my weight limit

Wow, your journal doesn't tell you shit about the Quests you're doing, lol. Just says the date. I'm trying to figure out where some of these people are, but I can't find them. I'm afraid to go in the big building in the middle of town because I don't want the story to auto advance before I finish up around town. I'll look around again, there are some sleeping people I didn't talk to. Maybe one of them needs the Antidote? Got to find out who to give the book to as well.

Would be very helpful if my journal told me at least the name and location of where they were again. The people told me, so why not record it? I know I'm going to be 100% lost in this game now

Edit - You just click the date and it gives you the info. Got it!

I figured it out. It only shows you 4 items at a time, you have to click the down arrow to see more items there. And I didn't mean inventory, I don't know what I meant, lol. But I figured it out

All I need to do now is find this bitch that lost her book before I go and talk to my Foster Dad or whatever. Is there anything I should buy at the store before I do? I can't use armor, and I took the perk x2 that lets me do more damage without a Shield. I see that Temple has some Healing Potions, so I think I'll take them. BTW, is it worth it to donate to the Temple for the rumors?

there is a hotkey for highlighting all of the interactable objects on screen, including doors and containers. don't remember what it is though. also the combat is "real-time with pause", so often times optimally commanding your party members and doing things like looking around scrolling the screen while in combat will involve pausing first.
I think the hot key is tab

yeah. Its pretty hardcore in that the game doesnt really hold your hand.

I had the boxed version of the game waaaaaay back and it came with an instruction book that was about 100 pages long that went into a lot more detail and lore.
