Does anyone really believe that all the best films of all time were made prior to 1980? With all the advancements we've made? Individual people are way more interesting than aggregates of people. Agreed. I find aggregates to be a good reminder of widely loved classics I know I should see eventually, but personal canons are always far more fascinating. I've discovered a lot of obscure gems from critics with more idiocentric tastes like Dan Sallitt and Michael Sicinski. --- I shall set down in a few lines how upright Maldoror was during his early years, when he lived happy.
