I don't know if this is a troll topic or not, but receiving compliments like that all the time does get really tiresome. Especially for women, anytime they post a picture, look at the comments, you'll see 5,000 "wow, so beautiful! (followed by a million emojis)" by thirsty ass dudes.

Literally no girl I know says that. Dont act like all girls are the same.

The problem OP is they have heard it thousands of times before you. As a guy who has been targeted with "You have beautiful eyes." It is exhausting and yes.. girls use that same line despite how often they have it done to them oddly enough. Just imagine OP having someone compliment a feature of yours when you hear it day in and day out.

That's in large part of why girls are so bad at accepting compliments, they're given them very liberally by everyone.

That's not a good excuse though, for a complete stranger or someone you're not interested at at all it's fine to sluff off compliments. But if you're engaged and interested in someone you may not be aware of how lame you come across if you can't accept any compliment from anyone.

the reason why is that compliments are almost never given with the motivation "say a nice thing to a person" and very frequently are given with the motivation "attempt to bang"

after enough bad experiences, the latter motivation is assumed

Depends on how they say it. A cute giggle with a smile saying everyone says that is kinda cute and shes digging it. Straight face monotone saying it is not good.

Also maybe take another approach, or another line. Dont just mention her eyes, mention her shirt or the lighting or something other than just hey you got nice eyes.

I get what you mean but it shouldnt be an issue if youre not a total Stranger or acquaintance at best and you word it a lot better than that.

Shouldnt be is the key terminology here because shit ya never know how people will take things

it's only ever been said to me when i was not smiling.

when i am not smiling, it's because i don't feel like smiling. "hey, smile!" doesn't sound like "hey, you're great, you deserve to be happy and feel like smiling" it sounds like "hey, make MY world better by smiling at me."
