Normally one would replace that sticker with an actual price tag to avoid such troubles. When resets are printed, all the displays are marked for a penny and are not allowed to be sold.

It wasnt a mistake as it was for the display model as the picture stated.

My Walmart does this right before inventory and places 1 cent tags on our display home phones. This one guy comes in pretty regularly asking for one of these phone sets. We tell the guy that they can't be removed and are just plastic and don't work. He gets mad and asks for a manager. He gets pissed and says he's going to sue for false advertisement. We just shrug our shoulders and tell him good luck with that.

The dude was obviously a jackass, but really $30k? Dealing with jackasses is literally what she is paid to do lol

Not hating on her though, it must be amazing to have something like this happen just completely out of nowhere.

Wtf? This shit happens daily and she gets $30k? Why?

And retail constantly tells you to just do as the customer wants and back down.

Being in retail for a while this story is dumb.

It's her job to deal with jackasses at the store, this dude took it beyond that by putting her picture on blast over social media.

https://blog.mass.gov/consumer/massconsumer/the-price-is-right-the-massachusetts-item-pricing-law/

"If there is a discrepancy between the price listed on the shelf or item and the price that it rings up at, the consumer must be offered one of two corrections:

If the item costs more than $10 and rings up higher than the advertised price, $10 must be deducted from the lowest advertised price.
If the item costs less than $10 and rings up higher than the advertised price the item should be given as free."

You're legally obligated by law to sell it as advertised no matter what. However the other poster is right it is listed as display, rather than the toothbrush. This will be up to the courts to decide if they choose to proceed down this path. But honestly a legal battle is something neither person wants to do.

But I don't know why she got 30k for basically being chewed out? It happens to retail people all the time. Am I confused? I don't see anything indicating he made a viral meme about her. Basically said this woman didn't follow the law and it's messed up. Which is somewhat true. You are obligated to sell at the advertised price even if your scanner is off if there's a sticker. The guy says the police confirmed it so it isn't a joke either they must've brought up the display point. Again meaning this will have to go to court and it's likely target loses, but both will be out of money essentially.
These laws in question almost always state it must be for that item specifically. Dude was trying to pass off a display as the actual item itself. When I worked at gamestop we had people try to pull shit like this all the time, pulling a bargain bin sticker off and putting it on a new release. They'd often cite this 'law' and then get mad when we'd laugh them out of the store.

Also funny how jelly people are over the manager getting 30k over this. Who cares if its her job or if you deal with assholes all day? Get blasted on social media and have someone start a gofundme for you then. Dunno what else to tell y'all.
