As someone who enjoys gray morality in games like Kotor 2, this game does it better than any I've ever played.

i thought it was just ok, kind of falls off after the first planet because then you realize you have seen everything the game has to offer. the braindead combat doesnt help either. definitely worth playing tho

Pathetically easy game too, why am I constantly looting when I can crush everyone anyway

You are right about it being easy, at least on normal. But of course you can make the game more difficult.

This. It isn't fantastic by any stretch. Disappointing is the word I'd use.

Even if the game was more difficult there's nothing interesting to loot anyway. Tinkering guns always seemed like the better thing to do.

This is a million times better than Fallout 4.

People slurped up that garbage like it was cocaine.

But make it actually meaningful 25 hours versus 45 hours of inane garbage and apparently that makes the game bad.

Outer Worlds was gutted of all the atmosphere that made the Fallout-style genuine.

It's an amazing first playthrough

Second play through fell apart on the second planet for me. Just hit a wall and got super boring.

Not disappointed I bought it full price though.

The 25 hour Bioware games (KOTOR, Mass Effect, Jade Empire) are significantly better than Outer Worlds

it's like almost directly in between Borderlands and Fallout 4. but i don't think that's necessarily a good thing.

it has the systems for a large game like Fallout 4, including a multitude of items and objectives. the problem is that the game itself is about as deep as a Borderlands game, or even less so if you take the weapon variety into account.

thus you're left with too many things for too small of a playspace. you quickly run out of things to do and eventually don't even need to use a majority of the systems that're given to you in order to beat the game.

i thought it was fun, clever, and interesting. but it was made to be a much bigger and deeper game than it really ended up being.

The thing with Outer Worlds is that people are really into it more because of what other games aren't instead of what this game is.

It's a mix of Bioware and Bethesda games and both of those studios last games aren't traditional RPGs. But Outer Words doesn't really come close to matching the highs of either of those games. It's just sort of middling. If this was released last generation no one would really pay attention to it.

Hell I think I liked Alpha Protocol more. That game had a lot of jankiness but at least it felt ambitious. Outer Worlds just feels like a mix of not-as-good Mass Effect and not-as-good Fallout New Vegas.

I think my biggest problem with The Outer Worlds was when I heard them claim it was the game they always wanted to make right after it released.

I was like "Really?"

Cause I had fun with it, but it felt like Obsidian making a budget title while they were waiting for the Microsoft deal to go through or something. It didn't feel like a "the game we always wanted to make" game.

It's okay. Like people said, it really peaked at edgewater.

And I don't really mind a short game if the narrative is really well done but the end of outer worlds definitly had a ".... that's it?" Feel to it.

It just felt small.

The only planet that felt appropriately sized was Monarch

Groundbreaker should've been twice or three times the size with a lot more to do, at least on subsequent visits.

Game felt like a checklist.

I actually remember finishing up my quest log at one point, counting the quests, thinking to myself "that's a fair number but I wonder how many are left" and then it turned out all I had left to do was finish the game.

Props that they did give you multiple options and endings in quests but in the end most things seemingly just lacked the proper amount of impact to leave a lasting impression

I agree with this. I love the art style and theme but it's all it really has.

Would make a fantastic sequel if they made it longer and more open. I felt it was far too linear. Like Fallout 3 levels of linearity.

TBF, it kinda was a more budget game. Definitely not one with a big one at least, and now they will have the big boy bucks behind it the next one should be far more expansive and able to see their vision complete.

My issue is that it wasn't morally gray enough

They set up some really really interesting scenarios and moral dilemmas but then make The Board so cartoonishly evil that it all falls apart.

I literally rolled my eyes when The board chick was ranting about how useless the bureaucracy was and how we need to work together to save the colony. from starvation And then her plan was "This place became self-sufficent without the Board so go wipe it out and kill everyone"

It doesn't even make sense.

It's a good game.

I kinda like that it is short since I don't know what they could add that wouldn't be padding. Some sidequests already feel like padding.

Can't wait for the sequel

A sequel will probably be a lot better.

But I don't really feel hyped for it either? Like chances are it's just gonna be the same sort of thing in a different galaxy with different shitty corporations. The theme already felt pretty played out at the end of this game never mind another one.

That quest really soured the end of the game for me.

You don't even have the option to lie to her and say you'll do it to avoid a fight. If you agree and have no intention of doing it your party members will get angry with you and you still have no option to tell them that you have no intention of doing it.

Wilds. I typically don't like games where your reward for exploring is the experience you had exploring but this game does it really well. Like Darmik said, the less you know going in, the better. It is an experience.

honestly I didnt get a good first impression but loved the game

its starts goofy with crushing the captain dude and purple planets and bad jokes with 2d characters

But then picks up as you play

One thing I don't like is they tell you of the horrible things Phineas does but dont really show it

Going back to the moral grayness I wish we got to see him being a deranged maniac to give us reason to oppose him
