Anime avatars are all over the political spectrum. A large number of transpeople and other LGBTQ individuals have them. Resetera and Tumblr, known left leaning sites are filled with them. A large portion of people who kneejerk at anime related content are often reactionary conservatives too. On the other hand, 4chan users, who tend to be far right also gravitate towards anime avatars which is where its often skewed the other way. Thats also where MLP avatars come in. Most people who still use it on outside forums and social media are ironic 4chan users which are obviously right-leaning.
