Current Events > It just occurred to me... Bioshock: Infinite is basically Call of Duty: Bioshock

And I don't mean that as an insult. I've been replaying Infinite lately.

The original Bioshock I've always though of as a combination of System Shock and Half-Life, gameplay wise. Whereas Infinite is more Call of Duty and Bioshock mixed.

The way they go about telling the linear narrative, the high-octane action set pieces, the faster paced cover shooter gameplay. It's very Call of Duty with a dash of Bioshock stuff like powers, scourging/exploration and light RPG elements.

Haven't played it since I've beaten it, like, 6 years ago. So it's a little refreshing going back through it again. I'm enjoying it. Also, the pistol is OP.

I love the first one. One of my favorite games of all time despite it being a "dumbed down" System Shock 2.
Never played Bioshock 2 and I don't see myself doing that anytime soon.

There were aspects about Infinite that I was pretty disappointed by (like the lack of a weapon wheel...) in comparison to the first game. But at the end of the day, I still ended up really liking it a lot, albeit for mostly different reasons than the first game.

If you love the first one, you really should play the second. It's better than the first in every way, except the story. Although, imho, it's not as bad as many people would lead you to believe.

Base game is more than made up by Minerva's Den which is way better than anything in Infinite.

It doesn't look bad, per se. I just have so little interest in it despite it being a BioShock game. It reminds me of those games that were made just cause, like God of War: Ascension, Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, Arkham Origins, etc.

Kind of weird reasoning to not want to get into a superior game. Isn't that basically the whole point of Call of Duty sequels anyway?

I just feel like Bioshock's actual gameplay feels a bit generic. It's definitely fun for sure and I get that this game is supposed to be a bit scary but through all that, what the game wants you to mostly respect is some deep crazy philosophy they're tryna image out.
