Godzilla being the good guy was sort of the twist reveal of the first movie. The trailer showed the damage caused by the MUTOs and gave the implication that Godzilla was behind it.

Mothra has been good in literally every adaptation.

Rodan siding with Ghidorah kinda surprised me. I guess maybe I could understand their assessment that he's a bit of a rogue as he takes the most convincing in rallying against Ghidorah in the original film, Ghidrah: The Three-Headed Monster. He also flat out leaves the fight in Destroy All Monsters when all of the heroic monsters are allied against the bad guys. More likely though, it was an ass-pull because the filmmakers wanted the fight between Godzilla and Ghidorah to be mostly one on one with occasional interference from Mothra instead of the three-against-one and two-against-one battles seen in the earlier movies. This way, Mothra and Rodan have their fight and let Godzilla fight one on one instead of Ghidorah being the all-powerful foe who requires teamwork to defeat.

Anguiras is good too, but he wasn't in the movie, smh. He's literally Godzilla's BEST friend.

Tbh none of the monsters from Earth are exactly evil, they're just big territorial animals. It's usually things like Gigan and Ghidora that are being used for evil by evil people/aliens.

Apparently Godzilla's species has a history of being on good terms with humans, though. They're smart enough to understand. In fact, Kiryu, or rather the latest incarnation of Mechagodzilla is actually the original 50's Godzilla, and he came to an understanding with his pilot to work together. If Kraken is introduced in the movies or an expanded universe, he'll probably end up being "good" too, because he's supposed to be at least as smart as humans.

Ghidorah is the only "bad" one. He gave out the alpha signal and everyone stepped in line except Goji, who decided to step up.

Mothra stuck by Goji because she is a pure and innocent soul, and generally a guardian of life. Though the explanation in this particular movie is that she had a symbiotic relationship with Goji. And the director basically came out and says he ships them together so... >_>

Meanwhile King Kong is chilling on his island sipping mojitos.

It was kinda neat when they referred to her as the Queen of the Monsters. I never thought about it, but it's true. It'd still be kinda weird to think of them as a couple given how many times they've fought each other in earlier continuities.

Then again, every "it'd be like x dating y" example I've tried to come up with has been a case where a man and a woman from opposite sides of the hero/villain spectrum did end up dating.

And the first monster Godzilla ever fought. The biggest mistake of the Heisei series is that Anguirus never showed up. Even if he was relegated to a cameo, I think they should have cut out one of Destroyah's forms in order to allow for the construction of an Anguirus costume.

isn't kong a different species/thing from the kaijus? I do understand that they co-exist in the same universe, as seen int the end of the movie, though.

BTW Kong is just a big gorilla... godzilla would kill him easy lol

I had a cool idea to reboot Ebirah as a pistol shrimp. Like he'd have a mantis shrimp's punching claw, but also a big shooting claw that could clap shut and launch a heat beam

Kong is confirmed to be a titan like all the other monsters. I think the big Skullcrawler lizard thing was, too. I don't see why they wouldn't be if they got big enough to actively hunt Kongs into extinction, the same way MUTOs hunted Godzillas, anyway.

Whenever I rewatch Mothra v Godzilla, I always get the impression that Godzilla is this delinquent Japanese high schooler stumbling about like a drunken idiot and causing trouble. And then when Mothra comes in, she's the mom who's had enough of his shit and has to drag him home.

Like, come to think of it, his appearance in that movie is so random and incidental to everything else in the plot, lol.

According to the novelization, Kong heard the call and ignored it because he doesn't care what goes on outside of his island.

And he's more than just a gorilla.

I don't know about him being drunk, but he's definitely having a bad day. Half the time, he's tripping into things. Like when he stumbles into the castle or gets his tail caught in that tower.

The original King Kong and Kong: Skull Island give him lion-like cuspids. He also has a personality and fighting style that is dissimilar from normal apes. It's like saying Godzilla's a dinosaur. He technically is, but he's much more than that. He has his own way of doing things.

The story of the movie makes no sense whatsoever.

This is actually one of the least nonsensical things on the film. Every second the humans are onscreen is amazingly stupid.

But that said, the Kaiju action more than made up for it.

I think it's hilarious that he's introduced as a brutal terrorist, then acts like a British nanny for the rest of the film.

The Japanese are to blame. Anguirus is not popular in Japan for some reason, which is why he essentially got dropped. It's a shame because I like him more than all three of Mothra, Ghidorah, and Rodan.

Anguirus isn't popular in Japan?

He has to have one of the most Japanese designs of any monster. You take one look at him and you can easily guess his country of origin. I wonder why he would be unpopular.
