He was famously critical of Peter Jacksons Oscar-winning film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. In a 2012 interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, he said: They gutted the book, making an action film for 15-to-25-year-olds. He also said: Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed by the absurdity of our time, and that the commercialisation has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. I wonder if he actually watched the whole trilogy or just saw clips there are several moments in Return of the King that make me tear up. it's not a mindless movie ~~my friends, you bow to no one~~ ~~I may not be able to carry the ring, mr frodo but I can carry you!~~ ~~in all those stories, the dark times always passed and a new day came (paraphrasing that one)~~ ~~(paraphrase again) when you die, a warm sun greets you and a fresh green country "oh. that's not so bad"~~ <cite>Zikten posted [p:933045481] in R.I.P.
