I shall set down in a few lines how upright Maldoror was during his early years, when he lived happy. There: done.

Although he worked tirelessly to protect his fathers legacy, he was not impressed by what he saw as the commercialisation of his work. He was famously critical of Peter Jacksons Oscar-winning film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. In a 2012 interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, he said: They gutted the book, making an action film for 15-to-25-year-olds.
He also said: Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed by the absurdity of our time, and that the commercialisation has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing.

I don't quite agree with what he thought of the movies. I think they had more heart than he gave them credit for. I wonder if he actually watched the whole trilogy or just saw clips

there are several moments in Return of the King that make me tear up.

it's not a mindless movie

my friends, you bow to no one

I may not be able to carry the ring, mr frodo but I can carry you!

in all those stories, the dark times always passed and a new day came (paraphrasing that one)

(paraphrase again) when you die, a warm sun greets you and a fresh green country "oh. that's not so bad"

His criticism, according to the quote, is that the 'aesthetic' and 'philosophical impact' were not there, not 'heart'.

That "commercialisation" is the reason why most people today know of or even care about Lord of the Rings at all. Plus are we supposed to pretend like he didn't cash the checks or something?

I love the movies but I can see his point. It especially becomes apparent in the Hobbit movies, which I still enjoy.

I am the Cheese! I am the best character on the show! I am better than both the salami and the bologna COMBINED!
