In general, I'm in favor of removing superfluous characters and spaces. Sidequest instead of side quest, ax instead of axe.
This is not the same as typing like that motherfucker vegy; Spelling is largely arbitrary for the purposes of most communication, but retaining form pays respect to etymology. Boxes yet oxen, and such. Also, the one thing the Brits get right is that "punctuation is fine outside the quotes". --- "A guy talking into the camera about politics? I say sidequest. Side-quest actually makes the most sense to me but, aesthetically, the hyphen is less pleasing to the eyes here being that both the 'e' and 'q' do not extend upward like a 'b' or 'd'.
